Set Up Help!

Hey guys, I am new to the forum and I am having trouble with my system in my s10. I AM a beginner to this scene so please don't "hate" on me cause that is all other people have done on other forums.

The problem: Every time I start my truck the system turns on and makes a humming sound. When I am driving and press the gas, the noise from the sub gets higher in pitch with the engine. I have also noticed it makes a noise even when the windshield wipers are on.

Does anyone know why this is? If anyone could help it would be great. I have dealt with it for a while now, but it just gets straight up annoying when I have friends in the car and they are always asking what the noise is.

Thanks guys!

it is a bad ground. check all your wires and connections again (yes every one of them at both ends and along the way) and make sure they are secure. depending on which model radio you have that could be the problem as well but start with the wiring.

Thanks. I'll try and set up another ground. I have also heard two other theories that I am not sure are true.

Something about the power cord and the ground cord on the same side?

and: the length of the ground cable might be causing it?

Would anyone be able to clear those things up for me.

Thanks!

They say running your RCA cables next to your power wire will cause that "whine" you are talking about but I've never had that problem with running my cables on the same side. As far as the ground goes...you want to keep that as close/short as 12 inches. But like suggested above make sure all of your grounds are good (actually touching bare metal) and tight.

What about a 10 foot ground back to the front battery..?

what kind of cd player do you have? The "engine whine" most likely can be fixed by grounding the rca shields of the cd player to the cd players chassis itself. The humming sound may be fixed by lowering your gains on the amplifier. Try those suggestions.

the chances of it being a loose ground wire are far greater than it being caused by the hu. lowering the gains will not solve any problem other than sending a clipped signal to the sub if it was doing that to begin with.
