Set the gains now subs smell weird

Im running two 15" L7s DVC 4 off an Orion 2500. I set the gains on the DMM to 37.0 (should be at 44.7) but already at 37.0 it was loud enough for me and I was in a rush. Later as im driving around I had the system on max and smelled some weird smell coming from the subs. Not sure if it was the voice coil burning because it didn't smell like burning but I dont know it was weird. What do you guys think/suggest?

Are they new subs, its possible you are just burning off the excess glue off of the VC's.

They are about 4 weeks old.

Well, if this is the first time you have smelled it, then thats probably whats going on.

i think L7's are know for smelling a little when the voicecoils heat up. My let off a stinking burnt smell if I push it hard.

Tip, if you smell something like its burning back it down.

Well, if this is the first time you have smelled it, then thats probably whats going on.

hopefully you didnt blow them or burn up your vc. your system isnt really made to be pushed full blast

Nah it's still running fine I just smelled something weird and turned it down quickly, still running fine.

Nah I know I didn't burn anything up. Why isn't my system made to be pushed full blast? I don't even have my gains set the way the should be to get atleast 1,000rms out of each sub.

But if my gain is suppose to be set at 44.721 on the DMM and I only have it at 37.1 on the DMM why would it blow?

because you are exceeding the thermal capacity of the coil.... Didn't do nothing different than what I was doing yesterday and it didn't smell today. Guess Defconx3 was right about it being glue burning up. Thanks guys
