Servodrive style install

Coustic made a "bass pump" system in the 90's under their design reference line as seen below:

It was the first commercially available "Servodrive style" V setup for magnetic driven subs. The original servodrive was released in 1992 and featured in Car Audio and Electronics using two 15 inch subs.

I've collected two free air subs and will be experimenting with a servodrive style setup which will hang 2 tens off the back deck in the V box. I know the subs will work well in the trunk as I have ran the same subs free air in previous years. They are a set of vintage 1994 Pioneer IMPP subs that have zero play time on them (got lucky and found some NOS).

This setup will replace my slimbox, which has been good to me. By choosing the IMPP subs I won't have to worry with snappiness or cone control as they are designed with dual spiders and bumped backplates to have very large range of control. Just need to use some high power to keep the cones in check and it'll be fine. :)

So out with the old........

.....and I'm beginning on cutting the new right now. Traditionally you want to keep a servodrive style box down to about 5 inches wide for tens.

This setup will still affect the ski pass, but will remove the box from the trunk.

Not servodrive, just a manifold. HT guys do it all the time.
Please review what I wrote, we are both correct. I said servodrive style and did include the info on the magnet system as well. Using the manifold in servodrive style, as this manifold is what it was originally used for. Never said using a servo or servo system. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm just glad to finally get started on it and eliminate this box.

I know what you wrote. Just seemed a little nonsensical to call it "servostyle" when it's a simple manifold that has little to do with servodrive. That mounting method was used by Coustic to allow easier mounting of IB woofers in a more compact space, not because they were trying to emulate the "servodrive". Same with the HT guys that use that method.

Trying to sound more fancy than it really is, I suppose.

Carry on.

I guess Im not following why this mounting method is even called 'servodrive style', as again servo systems rely on electronic feedback loops, and have nothing to do with their mounting style, or the enclosure/IB setup they are housed in. Not to diss your plan, just saying I dont follow the nomenclature either.

If that's what it means to you then good for you. Servodrive used this setup first, if you don't get it or just want to argue until hell freezes over please don't bother doing it here. You're attempting to make something of nothing. I'm talking about a mounting design you're talking about signal. This would be the beginning of a pointless conversation if I were to carry it on, which I will not. No hard feelings, but ****......

Take another look at the Coustic's in the photo.

Theres no magnets, the cones are moved by an electromagnetic motor in the port itself.

I'm going to be using it for space reasons entirely, but with the free air setup I'll be running very efficiently and be tuned very low.

No matter the terminology, the setup is a good one for the reasons above.

Tuned free air set up?
News to me. Can you explain?
Do you suggest the trunk simply have no frequency at all? Of course it is tuned, this is a free air setup so it is the enclosure. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yep, I see that. Ive been concentrating on the first photo, as that is the 'V' shaped style being referred to ever since in the thread. I guess I dont follow how the second pic, which is a servo system (assuming the motor uses a feedback system), relates to this topic of a V shaped enclosure with standard speakers installed.

All electric motors are electromagnetic. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

No sir I was asking a question. I have been told then running free air it is kind of like a sealed enclosure in a sense.

But you seem to be a dick about all questions asked so good luck with your build and have fun. God forbid one tried to learn about something new.

I just answered your question fella, or possibly lady (you do get your feelings hurt quite easy). I answered you that it was sealed and would be large and tuned low. I simply forgot the cute smiley faces and things that would make you feel comfortable with the post I suppose.

Actually no I did use a smiley so I must have just not used enough.....
