Serius to Aux Input

I am hoping someone can help... I recently purchased a used Ford Fusion with factory stereo.. it had an aftermarket serius system... I didn't wish to subscribe so i removed the unit.. the wires are still hanging there.. i plugged the audio cord(had to use adapter to make it right size) into my mp3 player and hit auxillary input but it says no audio present... Is the satellite not ran through the audio input button? And if that doesn't access it how do I figure out what will?
