*** Serious Question***

i think both sides of this argument are arguing for the same thing.
the rock fan wants the rap fans to listen to more genres of blues/rock/country

while the rap fan wants the rock fan to listen to more genres of the "rap" and "hip hop" community

basically everybody just needs to listen to more than whats played on the radio and mtv. there is a LOT better music out there.
Agreed. Honestly, i am a metal fan. But i also listen to other shit because i couldn't live on just one genre. The problem is, alot of people don't even believe in giving other genres a chance.

Clearly the only image of rap you have is the one that mainstream media portrays. Rap is NOT about *****es, hoes, rims, cars, etc
Its about the struggle of humanity, and its shaped by the fact that you dont have to be an incredibly talented musician/singer in order to be a part of it and tell your story.

I'm sorry but the things you're saying are just about as ignorant as the lil suburban white boys who think the ghetto is cool

Its one thing to come on here with an opinion and argue about it, but your opinion is about as well rounded, thought out, and accurate as someone coming on here claiming that sony is a piece of shit company because their subs aren't up to our standards
that would be me.

my only suggestion to you is move to the whitest neighborhood you can possibly find.

but seriously...almost all rappers, ALMOST all, have at least 20% if not more songs that are actually decent lyrically and meaningfully. I could make you a list of rappers, but I can't think of a rapper who hasn't done a song or two that were bs talkin about rims and hoes and money and shit...I could make you a list of songs that are excellent lyrically and meaningfully, but that shit would take years there are soooo many itsnot even funny...

Just quit being so closed minded about rap, like you are telling us to do about music in general

There is alot of incredibly powerful rap out there, and if you give it a chance, you'll find it

Also, its possible that you've heard some of the good stuff, and you just don't relate to it in anyway due to your cultural and societal influences. Honestly I doubt its possible to not have a single rap song that can make you want to cry...or just straight give you goosebumps because of how real it is.

rap for me as a musician and drummer, has always sucked. musically its like techno, no only worse, lyrics i really dont listen to, they act as a sort of other instrument. dont get me wrong i know how to play and enjoy different genres of music, but rap? its just poetry with the same 4 bars over and over.

then again the same can be said about any pop music. over produced untalented people that come out of nowhere because of their labels money spent on advertising and brainwashing the public. ie mtv.

70's was disco, the 80's where dance/hair metal, 90, alternative rock. music this decade 2000- 2010, is going to be remembered musically as the individuals preference, since internet radio sites, itunes and everybody having there own playlist because there are so many artist, advertising ways and sharing of music than ever before.

rap will be around and popular forever now. It has already been genetically inherited by too many people.

do what i did OP, stop listening to the radio, stop watching tv and find your own music in which you like, not whats popular. i found out i love a combination of blues, classic rock, jazz, electronic, mixed with mad edited drum beats lol

most the producers care about the beat of the song and how much bass it has in it or they think "oh this song won't be good without a low bassline made with FL Studio 8 or a bass kick thump from FL Studio 8 in it" instead of the lyrics these days. it's all about the beat these days //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/imo.gif.3a57bcc70a4835dc53e86ffae1a0b041.gif

i love it when you pull up to a show with a wall of 18's and the double kick is just beating the shit outta them and the highs are screaming and everyone is looking at you like WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!

lol

gonna be intense when i finish my truck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thats what the hell im talking about.

I love metal in my car, usually it beats out better than rap music.

What is up with rap fans these days? Everytime i hear a new rap song i like it for maybe 2 days and don't listen to it much afterwards. I hear people say stuff like, " did you hear the new lil wayne song!!!", and i wonder if people have actually heard real music? Music that is unique and doesn't sound the same as shit artists have released in years past. To me, all rap sounds the same, yet it is bragged about by about 80 percent of the music fan base in america. I don't get it, why don't people widen their interests in music and listen to some metal, rock, or even a bit of country? Something besides rap, i mean, it gets old. I don't even think most of america knows what other music sounds like. It's really a shame, because metal and rock is really good shit but alot of people will never listen to it. Alright, my rant is over!
Man I Hear that. A lot of mainstream rappers sound the same now a days. I tend to listen to more of the "underground" rap and a lot of them still have their own unique style. I do however not just listen to rap. I'll listen to anything if I like the way it sounds, genre doesn't matter.

Just curious, for those differentiating between rap and hip hop. Can you give me a list of a few solid rap songs vs a few hip hop songs? So I can see more what you're getting at here.
When we say rap, its songs that are meant to have meaning and tell a story or express an emotion or point of view, the ones where the lyrics are by far the most thought out and important part of the song. when we say hiphop its usually pretty much just dance/party/club music and these days hiphop is almost all the same, which is what you hear on the radio and mtv most of the time like t-pain's 47th version of 'buy you a drank'...
