*** Serious Question***

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif metal is exactly the same way for me...it all sounds like 5 guitars making noise and someone banging on drums in a pointless hard to decipher pattern
Also the main point of rap is the lyricism and meaning that can be carried in the songs, but unfortunately mainstream rap no longer reflects that at all. Its pretty much just hiphop these days...if you primarily listen to radio rap, then it makes 100% sense you would have the opinion you do
I've heard it all. And it is all just a bunch of lyrics that makes no sense. . It is kinda dumb if you think about it. And also, metal and almost every rock song has lyrics that mean something to everyone's daily life.

I hate hearing rappers rap about 24's and *****es. It is lame as hell. And everyone knows thats what rap is about. Money, *****es, rims and more money. Again, it is lame.

x2

go check out some more or less underground hip hop from other countries, that's what i'm into, nothing's the same

canada... Sweatshop Union, Classified, Swollen Members

australia... Hilltop Hoods

just to name some of my favorites

quite bitching about rap and hiphop because of only the mainstream rap, broaden your horizons ***

Exactly, yea when I come across stuff like that, I listen to it to and enjoy it, I just happen to be more culturally influenced by rap, and its what's around me more, so I seek good rap out more often as it is my music of choice
Good rap music is hard to beat. While the other stuff i listed can have some amazing lyrics, a rap song with equally amazing lyrics usually has the advantage of a great beat to go along with it, which makes it easier to listen to and kind of take it all in as you hear it, rather than having to listen a number of times and really get into the words. At least IMO.

Broaden my horizon of what? Rap? HAHA!!!! That is what this whole thread is about. I think more people should look into other genres of music for once. I know so many people that hear a guitar solo and start asking " what kinda music do you listen to?." It is really pathetic now days

I'm not saying all rap is bad, because i listen to it mainly for the bass and a few rappers. So, don't think i despise rap in general.

Clearly the only image of rap you have is the one that mainstream media portrays. Rap is NOT about *****es, hoes, rims, cars, etc

Its about the struggle of humanity, and its shaped by the fact that you dont have to be an incredibly talented musician/singer in order to be a part of it and tell your story.

I'm sorry but the things you're saying are just about as ignorant as the lil suburban white boys who think the ghetto is cool

Its one thing to come on here with an opinion and argue about it, but your opinion is about as well rounded, thought out, and accurate as someone coming on here claiming that sony is a piece of shit company because their subs aren't up to our standards

rap and hip hop are two polar opposite genres although grouped as one genre wayy too often. i bump robert glasper and experiment/mos def which is hip hop fused in with jazz musicians, youtube it! chris dave on drums ftmfww

If we thinking about the same thing, that aint hip hop. But then again look at an old Rakim video (I aint no Joke) and look at the chain, the clothes, and what he's talking about. Same shit they do now, yet true rap fans say Rakim is #1 or 2 of all time.

I feel like money and white people are messing up the rap game. No offense to anyone, but 15-20 years ago when no one was paying attention, rap music was a lot better. You had Public Enemy before Flav was wh0ring himself. X-Clan, BDP, and acts like that. They were poor and it was cool. They had a gold album, yet they were still living among the people. Now you got non talent having jagoffs like 50 living in mansions that Mike Tyson owned. You had your others rapping about money hoes and clothes too, but like 75% of the music had meaning. It was fun to rap. Now if you take a political type stance (Nas) you get somewhat condemned for it. It's like here take this money make me dance and shut up.

What is up with rap fans these days? Everytime i hear a new rap song i like it for maybe 2 days and don't listen to it much afterwards. I hear people say stuff like, " did you hear the new lil wayne song!!!", and i wonder if people have actually heard real music? Music that is unique and doesn't sound the same as shit artists have released in years past. To me, all rap sounds the same, yet it is bragged about by about 80 percent of the music fan base in america. I don't get it, why don't people widen their interests in music and listen to some metal, rock, or even a bit of country? Something besides rap, i mean, it gets old. I don't even think most of america knows what other music sounds like. It's really a shame, because metal and rock is really good shit but alot of people will never listen to it. Alright, my rant is over!
quit complaining and listen to whatever suites you the best, you dont have to listen to other people's music.

i think both sides of this argument are arguing for the same thing.

the rock fan wants the rap fans to listen to more genres of blues/rock/country

while the rap fan wants the rock fan to listen to more genres of the "rap" and "hip hop" community

basically everybody just needs to listen to more than whats played on the radio and mtv. there is a LOT better music out there.

FOR SHIZZLE

you posted a thread, you should take the advice everyone is giving/telling you

rap is not all about the mainstream shit on tv, i personally dislike 90% of that, yet, what do i listen to??? hip-hop and rap, just mixed with different genres

go listen to some of the bands i posted and pull the tampon out of your *** and give something new a try

we're trying to tell you not all rap is about fu*king bishes and sh*t, there's more to it then what you're basing all of this off of

Word.

And I realize hip hop also shouldn't really be what it has turned into today...but thats what is generally accepted as hip hop...

I couldn't agree more with your last few sentences

then give me a list of rappers that are all about struggle and all that. I wanna listen to this stuff to see if its any good if i haven't heard it already.
Classified
