Seperate EQ = Whats the point?

The guy that owned my jeep before me had a lot of stereo equipment put in, including an Eclipse head unit, an Eclipse 21010 equalizer above it, and 3 MTX amps under the rear seat.

The head unit got broken by thieves last weekend, so I'm looking to replace it. Looking at the new head units and the features they have, I'm not sure the point of the seperate equalizer. Should I just take it out and make my car a little less thief friendly?

for the most part yes. For the average listner the eq's built into the decks work fine.

But for the advance listner it give them better control over the different freq's.

depending on the HU's processing capabilities- a hu's internal; eq/dsp might not be as effective as that analog device

Depends on what headunit you have, and what type of built in EQ it has. I'm not sure what the Eclipse 21010 is as far as EQ's go....but most HU's only have anywhere from 3 band parametric to a 13 band graphic, and some don't have any internal EQ's. External units can give you much more control depending on what kind it is and how many bands it has.

but from what it sounds like he is not someone in need of that much control.

BTW, Squeak - Next weekend me and audiolife (Dave) are trying to get a hold of an RTA so that we can play around with some freq's in our cars. YOu should come and join us. Plus, your knowledge willl be very helpful.

Thanks guys. Yea, it just seems silly to have that much control in a jeep wrangler. Unless I can use the EQ to turn the wind & road noise down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'm trying to really simplify the stereo setup after having my car broken into a few times in the last 2 years (despite a clifford alarm).

He is trying to get a hold of Custom's RTA. It is an audiocontrol, but it should still give an acurate reading of the freq's. As of right now we are shooting for sunday july 24. We are going to go to Van wert.

PM me your cell or home or whatever way i can get ahold of you. As i have a feeling that the upcoming week will not offer me much time to be on the forums.
