Senate passes 800 billion dollar stimulus without 1 member readind the actual bill!!!

I hope they do not try and create another artificial bubble in the housing market...the shit needs to go right along with the other portions of the markets or at least stay reasonably close
this "stimulus" package is an attempt to recreate the bubble, and in cases where the bubble hasn't burst yet, we're trying to blow the bubble bigger.

Here's something I got from a friend in the US (a banker, like me). I've asked him to forward me his sources so I'll post that when he responds.

68% of US citizens own their home. 68.4% of Canadians own their home as well, even though they have not spent $100 billion per year to make interest on a mortgage tax deductible for middle-income earners.

The immigration policies in Canada are more open and celebrate the diversity of skill that immigrants possess.

The national pension system in Canada is not bordering on collapse.

Canada spends 9.7% of GDP on health care, whereas the US spends 15.2%, yet Canada does better on most major indexes.

Canada has less trade deficit per capita.

Canada retained budget surpluses for 12 consecutive years, whereas Obama just inherited a $1 trillion deficit (which he's now adding to with this stupid stimulus package).

Canadian banks made $8.2 billion in the last fiscal year. US banks lost $8.3 billion.

I can't figure out why everyone down here thinks Canadians are slow, or less intelligent than we are. Even here at the bank they still think we should avoid any policies that the Canadian banks have adopted. Are you guys hiring? LMAO!
Like I said, there are definitely things we could improve, but maybe this will be informative for you gentlemen with your pro-US filters turned on.

Well, for one thing, Canada only has 1, 9th the population of the United States. Add 260 million people to Canada's population, and lets see how they compare, especially in terms of health care quality/cost.

We don't think you're slow or less intelligent. We just think you're all funny looking. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I don't recall saying anything about population. I am talking about the relative health of countries, and the effectiveness of the government's policies for the public they serve.

Also of interest...you have more GDP per capita than we do.

Canada's immigration policy, atleast for visitors/temp workers is alot smarter than ours. When I went up to Winnipeg for work, customs questioned me like crazy making sure the work I was going to be doing wasn't going to displace a Canadian worker.

But don't you have higher taxes per capita thus meaning you intially have more play money in these scenarios?

What do you mean taking it in the *** for a lifetime?

Personally, an extra 10% in income tax makes no difference to me. As Flip indicated earlier, the ceiling is lower, and the floor is higher. I will likely never reach the ceiling anyways, and if I do, I can sure afford to give away some of my money. Between the ceiling and the floor, I make a very good living even though I only work part-time because of school. It has nothing to do with how well I live my life, but it sure can improve the lives of my fellow Canadians. Some have earned that improvement, and some haven't, but I'm not about to let the needy sink because they're tied to the lazy.

Now if we woke up tomorrow and had agreed to compete openly on all fronts, I'd be just fine doing that because I'd still come out ahead there, too.

Well I'm not midget so I don't do good with low ceilings and high floors.

Oh, well that is where we differ in a MAJOR way.

Huh?

I just read the ARRA bail out that was approved.
Fuck all you laid off people. You're going to put what's left of our economy out of business permanently. Seriously, a 60% discount on healthcare that you stick to your former employer? Don't you losers know you already have free healthcare?

Do you live in America or Canada?

maybe your system works just fine, which isn't an impossible thought. but our system works fine too, that is until they start screwing with it so much. i think we need to open up the debate between socialist policies and capitalist policies. all this hiding behind a brand of democrat or republican gets old. i especially don't like liberals who deny having socialist ideaologies. it's a big part of liberalism that i hate. the typical self proclaimed, open minded liberal, is no more open minded than the most racist redneck. same exact annoying people, only the ideas change.
