I'm trying to do a system in my new vehicle an it's proving way more challenging the more I learn.

Basically I'm looking for bass. I've found that my vehicle can't fit jack sh&t for enclosure size so I really won't get much from a ported enclosure. The wife won't allow me to put a ported enclosure on the back seat because she feels it looks "tacky." After looking at it objectively I think she is right.

I guess I'm going to go more SQ this time. I'm really looking for some guidence here. I really hate to spend money on things I don't fully understand. Audio is way out of my realm.

I don't think I can fit my 12s behind the rear seat of my new truck. Would I get the same bass and SQ from a pair of 10's or maybe even a two or three 8" subs?

I'm a little limited on brands to pick from. I'e got JBL, JL, MTX, PB, Diamond, Alpine and a few other brands that I can buy from local retailers.

What kind of speakers should I get? I've been thinking about a crosssover system to help seperate the signals and send them to what plays them best. I think this would improve my SQ over the stock speakers. I was thinking of going with an all one brand system. Seems like my local JBL dealer is the most helpful and most aggressive with pricing. The problem is that he is insanely busy and doesn't really have much time to help guide me to what I want.

I've found these forums to be the best place for new and experiance members to gain information.

How much space do you have to work with? Personally if you were going to put it on the seat (always a bad idea) why not just take the seat out and build a bigger box that will really be able to produce some bass for you?

Hey Toasted1,

Thanks for the reply.

It's really tight back there. I have two truck wedges now with my 12s in them from the previous vehicle and they won't fit. Maybe a base of 6 inches or less that tapers as it goes up because of the seat position.

I bought the truck for the back seat. I don't want to lose it. I wanted the ported box to have recessed handles so she or I could remove it in the rare event we needed the back seat. She isn't a very big woman so I think that didn't appeal to her.

I'm not familiar with the new Sport Tracs, do me a favor if you can

Gather up some pictures of behind your back seat and underneath your bakc seat if you can, that way we can get a better idea of what you want.

Three 8's ported do wonders, and will really amaze you if you go with the correct ones, but it's up to you - it's all about time, space, and money.

I'm not an expert but I don't think I have the cubes for 3 8" subs in a ported box. I'll get some pictures done tonight if possible. Should I put something in the pics for size reference?

The only enclosures I see for that vehicle, just through a quick search, is a downfiring 10'' woofer with around .5 cube sealed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Edit - I wonder if there is a way to put seat risers on her... hrmmm

MisterGrubbs,

Check this out.

Thats been sold and installed to 08 and 07 owners. They claim it works great and installs without issues. I believe that it takes up a little more than half the space behind the rear seat. Leaving the utility box open and does not require the removal of the rear platic cosmeic panel. I'd have the entire factory plastic panel removed anyway.

I wanted a custom amp rack right next to the subs. The reason being; I want to be able to fold my rear seats down for cargo. It's really handy. So the downfiring 10" under the seat won't work for my needs.

get a new vehicle.

or look into some of those slim woofers, looks like your only real option
Well I bought the vehicle a few weeks ago. I bought it because I love the truck and the Adrenalin pkg is awesome. It's a limited production vehicle. I'm more into rims, body kits and horsepower than sound but I significanly enjoy my vehicle more when equiped with an excellent sound system.

I knew I was in for trouble as far as an audio install on this thing. I just need more help than I thought I guess.

go measure your truck and give us the specs. we need to know how much cubic feet you have to work with and esp the depth

also whats your budget. you need just subs and an amp or what?

I'll get the specs & pics tonight if I have time. The largest box I've found is a .6 cubic per champer: http://www.soundoffaudio.com/item.cfm/id/2694 I've found it cheaper elsewhere. That takes up about 2/3 of my behind rear seat space.

As far as my current equipment, I've got what's in my sig. I two pairs of Cadence ZXS681 speakers but I sold them with the last vehcile.

I'd like to not spend more than $500-$600 if at all possible.

Pics and spec coming on Thursday. Thanks again all whom replied.
How costum do you want to get? Pull out the center arm rest for the front. Fiberglass a box up in there for a 10" ported backwards. Cover it up with matching material ( Interior color ) make it high enough to still use as an arm rest. Hell mold cup holder's.

I'd considered removing the center arm rest. The truck is a "floor shift" automatic so there really isn't that much center console to rmove. I don't feel the gain would be cost effective.

If I can get more airspace out of a fiberglass enclosure, behind the rear seat, I'd be interested in checking that out. Then enters the issue of cost. I'd really like to not invest much more than I already have. Even though the truck is a show vehicle I'd still like to keep it budget friendly.

I'm thinking that a fiberglass enclosure would weigh less than an MDF carpeted enclosure given the same cubic space. Would that be correct?
