Second battery

Can anyone shed some light on how I go about hooking up a second battery inside my trunk? I want to push some serious power out of my system and I think I'm going to have to ditch my cap and get another battery. I already beefed up my alternator to a 160 amp and the battery under my hood is an optima red top, I just need to know where to go from there.

+ from front batt to back + and the same with the negative accept fuse the + about 10 inches from the front batt

just make sure u bolt it down well, run wire front primary to secondary (fuse it) and hook amp up to second battery

u can run a ground front front batt to 2nd or just groun it real well to frame

So its pretty much the same way I got it right now, just instead of a cap I'll have a battery?

Well I got zero gauge as it is. Should I go any bigger than that? Can you go any bigger than zero gauge? Also, if the battery is just going to act the same as a cap would than why not go with a bigger cap?

because a big cap will cost the same as a good batt and a batt will hold a charge longer which will be easier on your alt

Battery is not the same as cap. Just buy it and put it back there, hook it up like the cap but put fuses on all wires leaving the positive terminal of the battery.

fuse at front and rear batteries. + from front to + in rear. - from front to - in rear (or just ground both to the frame/chassis)

You bring up a good point. When adding a rear batt, always fuse BOTH ends of your positive cable connecting the front and rear batts. People get use to only fusing the front and forget that they now how a power source at both ends of their wire. A short could/would draw current from either batt, at either end of the wire.

OK so I already have the fuse at the front battery. When I fuse the second battery do I put the fuse on the cable connecting the two batteries so I would have two fuses on the same cable? Or do I fuse the cable running from the second battery to the amplifiers?

yup, as close to the rear battery as you can get it.
