Sealed To Ported

WOW!.. I finally tried my MTX 8000 inside my 2.76 cubic feet slot ported (41.5Hz) ...

it was originally in a .9 cubic feet sealed....

man what a hugeeee difference... As seen on WinISD it showed practically 10 db increase in the 40-52 Hz range..

Played some songs like Nelly - EI ... wow... shook my head sooo much!

(but its true... when it basically got some what to full potential Xmax ... noticed the notes were being overlapped or delayed .... or perhaps that was distortion (or maybe because of no subsonic filter) ...

^ that box was made for a MX-3 ... a little too tall in my Probe's trunk (had to take off my hatch cover) ...

No more sealed! Time to make a new ported for my car!

Yea I had sealed in my Probe, and then when I got a bandpass box , it sounded much better.

i assume you meant it sounded LOUDER....if it sounded BETTER as in clearer....there was somethin seriously wrong with your sealed box.

well bandpass can sound good...however the box must be designed for a specific subs......but in generally they are loud....but **** when it comes to sound quality....

Ok, that does it, I'm ordering a subzone zbox 1.8 cft ported 4"*10" port 39 hz tuneing tonight. My Vega's been good to me (esp considering it's a BestBuy purchase from 6 years ago) but I need to show it some love.

Spec sheet says 2.0 cft with 4"d*10" port, but I figure this will be close enough with a little fiberfill and the fact that I'm overpowering it with my amp.

I don't think polyfill increases volume on a ported enclosure???

Ok, fiberfill point noted. I'll just leave the box as is. For subzone ported prebuilt, my options were 1.43(45 Hz Fb port length), 1.8 (39 Hz Fb port length), or 2.5 cft (31 Hz Fb port length).

If the ISDonline tool gives me a Vb of 1.46 cft and a Fb of 31.93 Hz, am I supposed to build a box with that low a freq or is that just a guideline for lowest the sub can go?
