Seal vs. Ported (SQ and space)

I'm looking to redo the boxes that my 2-12" Fi SSD's are in and couldn't find a thread on what the pros/cons are on ported vs sealed. They'll be going under the bench seat of my extended cab sierra and I'll be fiberglassing to maximize volume.

I'm looking for a flat fq response and the best SQ option in the space provided. The biggest problem is that each sub has about a 21"x16"x10" (LxWxH) or about 1.9cuft and that doesn't include the area lost to say a down firing space 2" thick changing the volume to 21"x16"x(10"-2") or about 1.5 cuft. And then subtract something like 0.4 cuft for the sub? So about a 1cuft enclosure is best case scenario.

Anyway, given all those details is sealed or ported the way to go? Also is down firing the best bet (up firing goes straight into the seat) or should I fight for forward firing and try to move the sub out in front of the seat enough for the surround of the sub to clear with the basket remaining under the seat?

I have an SQ setup, but of course, I also have that urge to get low and loud. If your #1 concern is to have flattest response, you should go sealed. I've heard people say that well built ported box can sound just as good as a sealed box. Sealed boxes are also smaller generally speaking as well as less efficient.

Ported boxes give you extra output around the tuning frequency, are more efficient, and have that low end extension. In my opinion, if you really put in work with into building the ported box, it will sound really good.

Btw I also live in LA, I can demo my car for you. Also have 2 12"s.

I just did a ported for a single sd3 10 for a Sierra under the bench. Came to just under 1.5 net. You'll be squeezing 2 12's into a sealed unless you do a bench lift.

I have them in there right now probably around 0.8 to as low as 0.7cuft down firing. Those boxes were made a while ago and I feel I could do better now. Fq response now is good. Its strong around 30-35Hz but it gets an annoying ramp up around 85-90Hz (So lpf stays at 85hz) I was hoping some additional volume would cut down on that...or maybe its my old *** amps idk. I just want to make sure I given them the best home I can when I get the SCV-1500 I'm waiting for.

cscstang answer texts lol. OP cscstang is building me another box(the last one was so nice) out of birch and it will be sealed for 4 12's running 2000 watts rms.

85Hz is the cutoff (lowest lpf value available on my HU) no idea on the slope. I have a KDC-BT755HD and that's not adjustable. They don't give slope values in the manual either.

It does. I leave that set at 150Hz. If I am not cranking the subs and I have the subs gain turned down (through HU control) and it sounds pretty good with the HPF at 150 and the LPF at 150. I just can't leave it like that with the subs turned up because the 80-130HZ range is over powering.

So you should really be crossing the subs once. Do this instead. Turn off (or max out) the LPF on your HU. Use the LPF on the amp instead, it goes down to 50Hz. Start around 75Hz, see if it sounds better - work your way down to see where it sounds best. Btw how do you it's the 80-130Hz range that's overpowering?

I do a fair bit of audio mixing and so I know from the software what fq the bass is at for any given section of a song and my ears are telling me that the volume is out of balance when a song plays in that range. I'll play around with your tuning recommendation and see if I can get a better tune that way.

Cool. 85Hz may be to high for your sub/enclosure.
