Had some AB xd8's and tried to get to much out of them (not much more than rated). Liked the sq on the xds but would like some more punch. Size is the issue since its a reg cab dakota. only have 1.5 cubs to work with. Mounting depth maxed at 5". 800 rms at the moment

Any thoughts?

Thanks

OP, you can definitely get some decent output with 1.5 cubes to work with. More than likely nothing crazy, but considering you're shopping around 8" subs, I bet you'd be surprised what you can do.

I was happy with the output and sound of the AB's at first and then after a year they got sloppy sounding and start to smell at rated. Box was tuned to 38hz.

AB HD-1500 Set the gains with a dvm to 24 volts at 1ohm using test tone. I did notice that one of the subs seamed to hit harder than the other ever since they were new

If you have the space you might consider going with 10's.. You will have a greater range of options and they might handle the power a little better.

Either way, I got great output from an L5 and Comp 8 in around .8 cubes ported, on 250-400 watts. I didn't notice a huge difference when I upgraded to a 12" D3.
