screws for box

instead of using normal screws to hold your sub in, what are those little insert things that u put in the box, then its threaded inside of it, and you bolt the subs to your box, that way you can take it in and out as much as you want, and never have to worry about the holes in the wood getting messed up from taking a sub in and out of the box too much.

the sub is 2 18" re mt's...

T-nuts. I usually use #8s. For subs that big I would probably go with #10 if they'll fit.

Do not use t-nuts, they back out of mdf. You'll find one of these days you'll have to literally cut your box open to get the sub out.

yea i have a ton of those, i used them on my last wall with the removable port.

Never had problems with t-nuts backing out...that could be because I seat them with a hammer before putting a screw in them. They don't go anywhere after that. If you're worried about them moving just put a drop or two of epoxy on the underside prior to seating the prongs with a hammer.

Ive seated t-nuts with a hammer. After not being able to remove a speaker because of a t-nut, I experimented and found that even when pounding the tongs in flush, it didnt take much pressure to back them out. They just dont seem to like material as dense as mdf. I never tried epoxy with them, Id rather just use the threaded inserts a few people above posted pics of. The thought of having to cut my box in half keeps me from experimenting with gluing nuts in place too much.

T-nuts probably work fine in birch, it's a real wood with grains. Ive never tried them in it, but I imagine they'd do alot better. Seems to be more the type of mertial they were designed to work in.

Ive seen some t-nuts with longer prongs on them, Ive never tried them in mdf. They probably do better. But after having a bad experience with them once, Im prone to just moving in another direction altogether (thread inserts).
