Scion xB Install

I haven't done much with stereo installs for a few years now. But since I spend quite a bit of time in this car I figured I'd have to do something with it. It's going to be basic, and reasonably stealth so that I don't lose much of the space I have. I have an older Eclipse HU that I'm going to hook my iPod to via the changer connection. Have an MB Quart amp that I got a few years ago, but still haven't used. An eD 11Kv sub is going under the passenger seat, and I'll probably keep the factory speakers for now. They sound ok, Pioneer stuff. Like I said, basic and budget. Take a look, let me know what you think.

I haven't even gotten the sub yet, or the cable to hook up the iPod. Plus, if everything works out right, there won't be much to see. It fits pretty close. I think I could probably get up to 3/4 cube if I made another one and took up all the space. This box fits in front of the rear floor mat, so there is still plenty of foot room, and I have about 7" of depth.

Nice Cobra pic.

Ya, only 8 posts. I forgot I was even signed up here. Didn't have time or $$$ for car audio, so why tease myself? Then again, I still don't have the $$$ for it.

The sub is actually a 10", but I usually use 3/4" MDF no matter. Overkill, isn't that what car audio is all about.

Anyway, I had a few hours to do some deadening today. Only got the driver's door done. Sounds a lot better, but still needs more work.

Door stripped down and ready for deadening

Factory Pioneer speaker. I've seen worse in factory systems. These will stay until the budget allows for replacement.

Scion017.jpg

eDead on the inner door skin. Wrapped the door beams too.

Scion018.jpg

Upper half of outer skin done.

Scion019.jpg

eDead done.... for now. Wiring back in place.

Scion020.jpg

Back together. Better than factory by far, but still needs more deadening. I have 75 ft, so we'll see if I have enough for another layer later.

And the sub arrived today

Hopefully I'll have some time tomorrow to do some more deadening and whatever...

Did some more sound deadening.

Passenger door. Stripped all wiring and bracketry. One layer of eDead on inner and outer skin. A couple bonus pieces behind the speaker opening.

Rear door.

Other rear door.

Also put a few pieces in the hatch area under the spare tire.

The doors sound a lot better, but I think I'll open up the front doors again and add another layer to the outer panel.

Got the Eclipse installed in the dash, for now anyways. I need to try some different paint options to get closer to the factory dash color, but it's pretty much how I pictured it would sit.

The trim ring for the radio. I don't have the right router set up to make this easily, so I had to use the jig saw to get it close, then sand away. I took awhile.

Scion002.jpg

Modified the factory Toyota/Scion brackets to center the radio in the double DIN+ opening. Everything is secure just as intended from the factory. I don't like the usual install kits with the cheap plastic bracketry. They always seem to move around, besides being very easy to break.

Scion003-1.jpg

The test fit. Everything looks good. Just need to adjust how the radio sits in the opening and paint up the trim piece.

Scion004-1.jpg

Here it is in the dash. Obviously the paint is way off, so I'll have to test some other options.

Another one. Everything fits good.

What do you think?
