School me on batteries

Just like the title says. i never knew until i got here that my battery was really all that important. although in my own defense i have never had a system that dimmed my lights. i always just assumed stock batt was fine.

If i decide to upgrade my battery later what specs do i need to look at or ask about?

For any batteries added strictly for stereo, they should be AGM. The more dense the plating is packed, the better ability it will have to charge/discharge at a quick rate which is necessary for car audio as the amps vary greatly in current draw from nano-second to nano-second. Many people will argue that XS is the end-all-be-all of car audio batteries, but there are many brands that perform wonderfully for less money. If you are planning on doing competition, XS might be the way to go, but if you are solely getting extra batteries for you own personal enjoyment there are brands like Deka, Kinetik, Stinger, Battcap, C & D, etc.

I personally use Deka, as I got them dirt cheap comparative to other brands and I have been thoroughly impressed with their performance.

Summation- AGM, quick discharge/recharge with decent amount of reserve capacity (cold cranking amps really means nothing for car audio), and maintain a more normalized battery up front to start and run the vehicle.

Oh no! I wish we had a search button. Or maybe something called google!
that would be awesome if the search function on this site ever worked and i felt it better to post a thread so it may be easier for others to find in the future. i could have very well googled it like i do everything else but with so many people here with such a wealth of knowledge i felt it more prudent to engage in a discussion rather than google it and not be an active and productive member of the CA community. In all honesty if everyone on this site just "googled" everything instead of asking there would be no CA.com

Thank you wicked for the insight and professionalism to answer my question without being a douche.

how many volts and amps per hour should i be looking for in general? i dont really have a setup at the moment that is going to require one but while i do my research i would like to know what it is i am looking for.

that would be music....very loud music
9a31s are your best bet. 8a31s if you don't have they money or the huge current draw. FYI to save you even more money, Super Start AGMs are just rebadged Deka 9a31s.
