It's a realistic concern because some of them are just not up to the task. If you really want to unlock something special try the Jordan drivers.
They are truly special and the science is there to explain why. It's my favorite sounding wideband ever, and I've had more than a few pass through my hands. They're just holographic, they disappear. They sound sweet right out of the box and they only get sweeter with a bit of EQ and lots of time gone by. The 100HD will play right down to 30-40Hz in the home and really relieve you of all those phase coherency issues. In the vehicle you wouldn't be using them at that low of a frequency so all that potential becomes a huge dynamic reserve. They'll stroke **** near 3/4" and you won't hear any intermodulation distortion, very clean motor. Otherwise, the 60HD is smaller and more install friendly but they're still changing over to ScanSpeak production for their drivers and it's not in stock for now. Couple links for you below.
