running two separate electrical systems

I plan on running all my amps off of a second alt and was wondering if I would have too keep the second electrical system totally separate from my stock one? By that I mean would I need an alt bracket with rubber grommets or such too keep the alt from grounding too the engine block? And yes I know that I would not be able too ground too the frame anymore...

Mount the second alternator to the engine, no grommets or anything, it CAN ground there... Use the 2nd alternator to run a 2nd battery - the 2nd second battery to run your stereo stuff...

I'm pretty sure thats how it works, but then I have never done it.... You might be better off just getting a single hi-output alternator...

No. I have killed my alt with my system before, I was in a pretty secluded place... not doing that agin.

i as going to do this to get to 17v but everyone told me it wasnt worth it... just my .2
I didnt read anywhere that he said he was trying to achieve a 17V electrical system. And if he was, he is only doing it for his audio system, not his whole system.

He probably asked that because I was talking about running 1001bd's at 17v awhile ago... I learned a little more about that and now I’m sticking w/ 14v.
