Running system off an Ipod?

I fried the ground loop in my HU and while its in for repair I will put the factory deck back in but they say it could be gone 4-6 weeks. I have the rear speakers running off deck power but my fronts and sub is off the amp. Rather than screw with this wiring, I was thinking I could just hook up a set of female RCAs to my Ipod if I get 3.5 mm headphone jack, and two female RCAs could I make an adapter to plug the ipod into the amp?

Yeah, good idea to start low, but I think you'll end up turning the gain up on the amp pretty high. I've tried this before to test amps, but the ipod doesn't quite put out enough power..

I have done it before in my sis car I was using it for work hour and a half drive. And the head unit was out for repair so I did what you are going to do just use volume up SLOWLY!

This is what I did when I was deciding which headunit I wanted to switch to and had already sold my other one.

I put the four channel RCA's on the left channel of the y adapter and the SUB RCA's on the right channel of the y adapter. This kept everything balanced. My original deck had 2V pre outs and I had to turn the gain up a little to match the output of the iPOD, so you should be good.

I also set the iPod volume up to 3/4 to minimize distortion, also I set the EQ to flat and it sounded great.

EDIT: I had to use 4 splitters (2 Femaele to 1 Male) to get all 6 rca's down to 2 and a y-adapter.
