Running 3 amps, Remote Wire..

wont it always be drawing power if the battery is connected to it?
No - because the circuit isn't completed until something triggers the relay to close and allow current to flow through it.

The same way an amplifier that has a direct power connection to the battery won't constantly draw power except when it's turned on.

Not a necessary step but as I previously stated...$5 or so is awful cheap insurance....heckuva lot cheaper than repairing/replacing a HU, right?
just to play devil's advocate...

why not just fuse the HU remote ($1?) and run as many remotes as you want (within reason).

From bcae1 it seems 40mA is about the max turn on current for an amp, and from what I've read, HU turn on's are usually good for a few hundred mA. So even if a given installation happens to use amps requiring 40mA to turn on - it's reasonable to expect 4 or 5 of them wouldn't overload the HU turn on circuit.

If the amps happen to require, say 20 mA - it's quite possible 10 of them wouldn't be a problem for a typical HU.

Fuse that little wire? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif????

I've triggered as many as 5 items, 4amps and an accessory off of two different HU's.

The current required by today's amplifiers for the remote turn on is so small, it doesn't even matter.

But, do whatever you want.

What about amps from 2k2?
looks like you've been playing to much video games.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

reffering to you using the term '2k2' after the game burnt it into your memory.

relays are easy to install and a great insurance. You are better off using them for multiple reasons...many given here...for one, you are NOT creating any undue load on a h/u AND you are giving yourself unlimited possibilities. with what you can hook up to it.

course.... I like buttons and switches...lol
