RSD12D box - could it be better

I hope you didn't buy those RSD's thinking that they will perform like a an idMAX:furious: but, any ways that size of box should be fine for them, so check for any air leaks around the box.
They will hold their own the the idmax in sq. anyday

RSD will perfrom hand in hand w/ MAX.....trust me ID know.

your BOX IMO needs more bracing... Bracing cures all. Add polyfill too.

The RSd like big boxes...bigger the better IMO. For Q of .707 for the RSD12d requires ~5 cu ft;1.8 gives you a Q of .8 if Im remember my calculation correctly.

Maybe it's just me, but I think 1.8 cubes each is a tad big for sealed. Might try building a smaller box. Towncar should know more about this. I see he's already chimed in on the potential of the sub, but he may be able to help out on your actual predicament.

Hooray for the RsD police..... Please do not ever compare the legendary Idmax to an rsdeez nutz...Well the guys rsd's will probably not sound good because he did not get it installed by a "profressional" shop //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif any body? and of cousre bigger the box the better for the most. Pg recommends:sealed box volume: 0.78-1.20 cu. ft

.78 is not that big is it?

Alright thanks guys i will try the bracing + polyfil and see how it goes.

@Ptown_TSxxx - i'm not really sure what ur talking about but anyway... the pg specs aren't supposed to be the best according to others' experience

All of the reviews I have read...even the one from Car Audio and Electronics states that 1.8 cu ft is a good size. In the article, the tech from PG recommends a 1.2-2.0 cu ft sealed box. These subs are not designed to play in small boxes.

I like this line from the review:

With the RSd12, I heard notes and details that I haven't heard since I tested the JL Audio 12W6 and the Stroker Pro 15". At low, medium and at high volumes, the RSd12 was unstressed and sounded wonderful.
Also, the fact that PG stated that SQ was the main goal when they developed these subs and that a lot of listening went into getting the final product.

Nevertheless, I would check your wiring from the amps to the subs to each coil to make sure the polarity is correct. If you have to, pull the wires from the amp and tap them with a battery to see if the subs are moving in the correct direction. If so, then play a low test tone or some low bass CD's and check the box and sub for leaks and/or noise.

If all is good then try to reverse the polarity of both subs to see if that sounds better, blends better, hits harder, plays lower.

Seems most of the time I have helped people with "lack of bass" from their new sub install it was alway polarity related.

Also, What are the dimentions of your box? (LxWxH)?

have you heard one?

Heard one? had both of course. Side by side testing with both in sealed and ported boxes.. I get pissed of when people try to compare the an Rsd to a Max. My personal peeve. Sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Well i got the polyfill in and it helped a ton but it only sounds good on drums. It sounds pretty muddy on bass guitar and like crap on hiphop/techno. I haven't heard many setups but my friend's ported type-E's on 400w sound a whole lot better and hit a lot harder. With the volume set very high his type-e do not distort period. With the volume on mine set at a moderate level(to me) they are either distorting or just sounding bad(maybe one in the same) on anything but a nice singular drum beat. Any ideas? again plenty of power, 1.8cf, polyfill, no leaks that i can tell. I haven't had time for bracing but i am sure its not flexing so much that it would make much difference. I would think they could match type-e ported in SQ at least. I wasn't aware that type-e was anything special.

It sounds to me that you have a box problem, or even possibly need to check your settings on your amp. No reason it should be sounding muddy at all. btw where at in Tennessee are you located?

I am in knoxville towncar. Well the box seems solid but i will check it out some more. What kind of amp settings should i be messing with? The crossovers are at sensible settings but the HU crosses it over a little lower than the amp is set for anyway. The gain isn't set by the meter yet, its about in the middle right now. And i have twisted the phase all around hearing no real difference i assume its irrelevant for one sub or something.

One difference i notice between my rsd and the type-e's is that the e's hit each notice efficiently and seem ready to take on the next note before the current one is over, while the rsd seems a little sluggish and just kind of takes the notes on as it can.
