RL-P vs. XXX My review

Also, the sub is already kicking a$$ in my enclosure, so i know if i put it in a better box, it will just be that much better. The RL-P didn't impress me output wise at all, and i didn't wanna waste time building a box to RL-P specs and then have it still bottom out and not be loud.

That right there sounds like a huge assumption, and selling the Rl-p should have only been done after you changes enclosures IMO.

Why? The RL-P was not handling the power good at all, the XXX has been taking the power and taking it like a champ. Had i been running 600rms then yes, i would have kept the RL-P and built a box, but i am running over 1200 watts rms, and i figured the RL-P was just not a good sub for that amount of power/

I have a few questions.

1) what amp were you using for both subs?

2) what is the coil config on both?

You do realize that the RL-P can handle 1200rms in a small sealed box. Usually power handling goes up in a smaller sealed box and impedance rise pwns all.

****. I swear every year the XXX is compared to a new cheaper up and coming subwoofer and all hell breaks loose. Fanboy this fanboy that. WTF!!! This same shit happend when the ED A came out a few years ago. It's funny actually, people want the XXX to lose so bad. LOL!!! What's the use to write a review for the XXX now-a-days if your going to be called a fanboy.

1. ED 9.1

2. both were dual 2

I dont know why you gave up on that RL-p. People on here do **** good numbers with them. (iceteebone and jellyfish420 come to mind), so I think it was just in your install/box.

Glad the XXX is working out for you though, but PORT IT!

1. Elemental Designs Nine.1

2. Dual 2 Ohm for both.

Yes I do, which is why i thought it would be ok running the sub at that power, but in reality it wasn't taking the power well at all, it was reaching full excursion alot.

I may wind up porting it anyways, i got the potential already with my sub/amp setup, why not utilize it to the fullest?

I was sitting here and just happen to realize why the XXX gets so much praise from people who have no clue.

Other then Ecko, the **** thing is idiot proof...I mean come on. Its hard to bottom out. People clip the piss out of them and they take it. Big shiney magnet WOW!!!

Now I am not downing it at all, RE makes great stuff. I just think that the crediability of the reviewer and installer need to be taken into consiteration. For christs sake the guy has/ had his amp wired to the fuse box when he had the RL-P installed. He has had what? a total of 10 minutes listening time? And his review is not taking into consiteration that each and every install is dofferent....Now, even if the XXX is "louder" then the RL-P, thats great, it should be. Even if the RL-P "sounds better", thats great too. All I know is that SS and RE are two great companies that make great products and allow us, the people that they dont know from the internet, have group buys, have good customer servise. Shit, they even come to a darn message forum and help people that are in need.

Cliff notes,

I suggested that ls1 isnt capable of a "good" review, due to the fact that he has asked too many questions that a non experienced person would ask, has had a total listening time of 10 min, and has only heard this installed in HIS vehicle. This is again my opinion.

He got what he wanted, he said in a post of his on SSA and I quote...

Its for a 12 inch RL-P BTW, and i am going for like 70% SPL, 30% SQ
Both RE and SS have great products and customer servise.

Sigh... you never ported it. Night and day diff.

Glad you wasted 200$ instead of 30$..

beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeooooooooooooooooooocccccccccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Because you never followed Mike's specific recommendations regarding the enclosure for your application and desires, that's why!

i didn't wanna waste time building a box to RL-P specs and then have it still bottom out and not be loud.
That was the assumption, and again you don't know how it would have performed because you never did what Mike suggested. I think he also mentioned how careful you need to be when running one rl-p with the nine.1 amp. Hell, you didn't even have the power wire connected to the battery terminals to begin with. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink can you?

I wonder why it wasn't handling the power...you never had the amp powered correctly nor was the enclosure correct for your application. I highly doubt you were actually getting 1200 watts to the Rl-p in your application with the power wire connected to the fuse box and whatever other ghetto wiring you may have had in the car. Anyway, I am glad to see that you have the XXX and it is working nicely for you. I just do not think your experience with the Rl-p was at all normal due to the install and enclosure issues.

I bought an XXX on ebay, it costed me about 120 dollars difference, worth every penny IMO.

First of all the shop wired it to the fuse box, not me, i fixed that myself however, and i noticed no change in anything. RE reccomends a huge ported box for SQL applications, yet in my tiny little sealed box it pounds like an animal, how can you explain that?
