RL-P vs. XXX My review

What was stated in all the suggestions was an application for the sound you wanted. Granted the XXX pounds in the small box if you wanted the Rl-p to pound all you had to do was port at @ 28-34Hz depending on preference. I bet if I were near you my Rl-p ported would wreck havoc on that prefab sealed XXX just because of enclosure.

First of all the shop wired it to the fuse box, not me, i fixed that myself however, and i noticed no change in anything. RE reccomends a huge ported box for SQL applications, yet in my tiny little sealed box it pounds like an animal, how can you explain that?
Different woofers perform differently in the same enclosure. Recommendations are just that, recommendations. They are not set in stone, so of course you could be off the recommended specs and still have some performace. It is that simple.

Anyway, I plan to do a similar system to the one you had. I plan to use two Rl-p 12's and the Nine.1. I plan to do a tuned ported enclosure. When it is installed and set up I will report my impressions. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Also realize that i did not want to have to have the gain extremely low all the time and have to watch the volume, thats very annoying. I wanted a sub that can handle and is meant to handle the amount of power I have. Thats the main reason i got rid of it, not becuase the output, but becuase of the power handling issue.

i didn't read this whole thread but i gather that you bought a sub rated at 500 watts rms and expected it to handle 1200-1400 rms daily? imo i think the rl-p can handle 1200 watts daily.

reading so many people having problems putting the RLP's and RLI's into large enclosures makes me think maybe they are made for smaller boxes with that much power?

I think one of the biggest things is the type of music you listen to also. How does the XXX handle Drum beats compaired to the XXX or were you listening to long and low Bass beats like most rap? Does the XXX kick as acurately as the RLP when listenign to rock?

It does apprear to me from reading this forum for some time now that the RLP is harder to please enclosure wise than the RE subs. it is also aparent that the XXX is one bad *** mofo sub if you want SPL and for it to still sound good.

I have to wonder where the Brahma or Tumult drivers would fit in.

As for me I'm so limite don mounting depth I can't consider either sub, so I will be getting 2 10 Kodas or such and thats probably the best SQL I can get that will fit in a small enclosure with limited mounting depth. Not everyone can fit something like a XXX...

^ As above, Mike had me worried about over-feeding the RL-p as well.

To be honest, I suspect the idea behind the warnings and recommendations is that if you blow up your sub like an idiot, you're probably gonna blame the sub; And since Mike's product is Mike's product, he doesn't want that to happen.

Hence the 298031092 warnings to turn your gains down, etc.

I bit the bullet one day and juiced the everloving piss outta my RL-p because I couldn't stand the paranoia anymore; It didn't blow, smoke, smell, or bottom out.

Please begin to post your posts in one post.

Sounds like that XXX is just what you need; Even if it's just the placebo factor.

I haven't heard an XXX, but people seem to love them; I think what's happening in this thread is that people are rushing to the defense of the RL-p because you didn't give it a full fair chance;

That's your business, though. I wouldn't suggest that any individuals be discouraged from purchasing either woofer.

"The XXX is louder than the RL-p."

^ While that may seem like a sacrifice to Splinter fans, it likely will be less harmful than a hundred more ls1pimps.

Love,

Cybe.

"Hey Mike, thanks for the subwoofer; I'm gonna throw [kilowatt plus] wRMS at it!"

"Sounds like too much power, if you'd like to use that much power, I suggest a [small box dimension] sealed."

"Okay." [next week] "WTF it's not loud!"

---------

My RL-p was louder in a nice vented enclosure @ 500wrms than it is in a tiny sealed box @ 1000wrms.

( my experience, anyway. )

Peace.

Reading through all this...WOW The guy is Giving his opinion/review of the change he made when he switched his sub. Now he's happy with the result, Is that the problem here? Or is it because it's an XXX? Pimp, I lift my hat to you for putting up with all this. You guys should take note that through all this thread, he never gave in into starting to talk thrashy or made childish comments. Why can't we just be accept that he's happy? Regardless if he paid more/ has different box/. It's his money/choice! You guys like feedbacks or what? How are we suppose to learn this this stuff if we dont share our experiences? Unreal!

**** ive been seing this WHOLE thing go on for a couple of months, ive seen the stupid "rlp ia better than xxx on wait a second i gave it 600 watts" 20 page war and ive seen the posts saying RE is hype etc, i got one question

HOW THE **** ARE YOU GONA COMPARE THE RLP AND THE XXX?????

serious you **** SS fan boys need to go to hell, im sure hte rlp is a great driver, but for a bunch of idiots to be basing the xxx and talking shit about RE and saying the rlp is better? go kill yo self!!!!!

and this is to the idiots NOOBS who dont know shit and say the rlp is on the same level .

I mean come on are you guys blind? look at the two???

so i guess if the RLP is the same as the xxx the RLP is the same as the brahma kmII? i would love Dan Wiggins to hear this one.

This is such a crappy comparison thread by some noob yet he claims his comparison is better than mmray's.

mmray used 3 different opinions, went int depth on the types of music he played. XXX fans came onto the thread and requested more power and different enclosures to be tested.

So what did he do? He tested out the different power ratings and enclosures.

In this thread you have some nub who never took anyone's advice on proper installations using one type of setup. SS owners came on doing the same thing XXX owners did in the previous comparison thread, asking for evaluations with different enclosures.

And what does he do?

"Oh I sold my rl-p WHY SHOULD I PORT IT ROFL?"
