RL-i8 Size Question

K I need some help from owners of the RL-i8. I just bought an 07 Avalanche and want to put a pair of subs underneath the backseat. I saw on the Soundsplinter website that from the bottom of the magnet to the top of the basket is 6 or so inches. How much further past the basket does the stripping of the sub go? Don't know the official term for it (mind is drawings a blank). Reason being that I have about 7 inches to work with from the carpet to the bottom of the seat and am wondering if I will be able to stick an RL-i8 underneat there or if there is another sub I have to use. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

you have to take into account excursion, and the thickness of the wood. add 1.5" for the thickness of the wood, so thats 7.5" now take into account excursion. You are going to need a sub with a very small mounting depth.

Yeah...I was going to go with 1/2 Inch MDF. Sub that small, seen people go with half inch and be ok. The X-Max on the sub is 18 mm, or about 5/8 of an inch. So I'm looking at a total sub height of about 7 inches...plus an inch for wood is 8...yeah I'm screwed. Unless I can raise my seat somehow. Any other shallow mount subs that compare to the RL-i8s?

i had exactly the same problem (honda ridgeline), i went with ascendant audio assassins.

also if you don't mind facing the sub sideways you get about 12" of depth

How do your assassins sound? How much room did you have under the backseat of the Ridgeline? Just went out and did some measurements and maybe found a way to make the Rli8s fit, I'd just need to get the actual subs in there to see if it'd work or not.

the rli's fit....barely. but i chose to be on the safe side and got the assassins. they sound really good and i feel nothing in the $200 range are significantly better that they warrent the premium.

heres the measurement for the ridgeline

13" top depth

11" bottom depth

9" height

Yeah...I wish I had a chance to hear all these subs instead of having to go with word of mouth lol. The only thing that worries me about the RL-i8s is the displacement on em. I was looking at 8w7's at first but figured that they werent worth the huge difference in price between them and the RLI8s. Do the Assassin's get reasonably deep for an 8? Im coming from a system that had two Infinity 10.1Ds in it, so Im just wondering how two Assassin 8's or RL-i 8's will compare to that. Thanks for the insight.

They get pretty deep. Nothing that would make you wet your pants over, but not too terrible either. Then again, I don't have all that much to compare to. In comparison to the Rl-i 8"s, I'm not sure how much of a difference it'd be.
