Rewired setup

no theres more on the forum you just dont see them ,i've got at least 6 people on the forum now.anyway like i said i can help you with all your car audio needs or wants.and yes i can do a dc 1.2 amp shipped for 360 ,but considering you have 500 you may wanna look at some used stuff too.i could do the dc lvl 3 15 sub that i have used and an amp to push it for 500 shipped easy .

not sure i want to go to a 15" sub. the majority of my music consists of classic rock with a little rap, hip-hop, country, and newer rock thrown in.

and i definitely want to stick to one sub due to the layout ideas i have for my trunk after everything is all said and done.

what is the general consensus on the Kicker KX600.1 amp i have now? i FOR SURE want and need to upgrade the sub. can i hold onto the amp for a little while and get a better quality sub?

yes you ban use that amp.so the quickest sub i can get for you is a american bass sub ,if you get a sub that will take a little more power ,it will leave room to upgrade the amp later.look at the xfl 1244 if you like it send me a pm for a price

ok so i got everything hooked up and tuned about 2 hours ago. i tuned my amp appropriately with the dmm to 13.0 volts (supposed to be 13.42) and my HU set to 0's all around at 30 volume (max is 40 so that is my 75%) and a 50Hz test tone and everything sounds great....BUT...after playing some tunes off my ipod at 10-15 volume for about 10 minutes the entire car smells.

while it was playing i checked the amp for heat and its still nearly as cool as it was just sitting there doing nothing, same deal on the speaker cone..neither of them had played long enough to even start warming up!! also checked all wiring for heat and none there either.

Now i have heard that sub boxes will smell from glue or the formaldehyde used in making the MDF but i had this EXACT setup in the trunk of my cavalier for 3 years, probably not even hooked up correctly, and never had this smell.

Do you guys have any thoughts. If it is, in fact, the box that smells is there anything else i can safely construct the box from because this smell actually makes me light headed.

i know what burning electronics smells like since i was an electronic technician in the army and this smell is really close to that but i have never smelled formaldehyde so...meh

check to make sure you arent overpowering your sub. if you want 300 watts rms make sure your doing sqrt of 300 x 2 to get your voltage to set with a dmm. i just calculated it and it should be 12.2
