Renting a car

I am 23 and am going to rent a car for a business trip. You can rent a car under 25 but it costs $10 per day extra here locally. My question is do I need the extra insurance? Do insurance policies typically cover it or credit cards?

Well I hate renting cars from the recent episode I had with Enterprise. Well not me, but I did throw down the 50 dollars deposit to be able to have my fiance rent it. She was in an accident and well we had to get a rental. It was covered by the person that hit us. So we go there and get a stripped Ford Focus and you know it gets you to point A to point B. So about 2 weeks later they tell us we have to bring in the Focus and exchange it out since they sell their rental cars to the public. So we take it in and they give us a Saturn Ion POS! It was raining like cats and dogs and the lady scans over the car in what seemed like a Nano second. I then tell her, hey it looks like the plastic air duct that cools off the radatior is really low. She says it will be fine, that they check these cars in the back before brought out in front. I am like well you said it, so I will hold you responsible for it. She said fine, just to get us out of there since it was their closing time. So when we returned it in they said we owe them 80 bucks since the plastic piece is broke. I told him that the lady knew about it before hand and said she would be responsible about that since I told her about this before driving off with it. Of course they say NO and we have to cover it and the 50 bucks will cover most of it, so we owe them 30 bucks so they can fix it. I am like listen here assholes, I am supposed to get that 50 bucks back, not have it go to fixing something they knew that was broke ahead of time.

So moral of the story, sorry it was so long, make sure you pay the extra insurance, because it will save a headache in the long run if anything happens.

Plus, make sure they go over the car with you for a good amount of time.

^^^ also have all the deals that you make in writing w/ signatures...............becasue if you two would of saign a paper saying that enterprise was responceible they would have to give u back the 50 bucks

Is that so? I think I signed like 4 different things about their policy and what not. So yeah, when it comes down to somebodys word, then never trust it, especially when it comes to the local enterprise rental place.

Most personal insurance policies cover you if you drive another car. Find out if yours does. If it does, I would not recommend the high rental car insurance.

I worked for a car rental company for 2 1/2 years...

get the insurance..

no ifs ands or buts...

they will screw you if the vehicle is wrecked, regardless of whether or not your insurance covers the damage..

they willl charge you for "down time," the amount of time the vehicle is being repaired for if you do not have their LDW/PDW insurance...

basically, if you rent a car @ $20/day/ulmtd miles you will have to continue paying that $20 every day the car is being repaired...

and seeing as how they wont be in a hurry to get it fixed, it can add up quick...

most places will charge you for it, but ask them anyways.. some local places wont, but if they say they dont have downtime charges, get it in writing, especially if you dont use their insurance
