RE Se 12: ported or sealed?

Sorry for such a dull thread but... I drive a '75 bmw 2002 and just got a se12. I don't have any experience building boxes but already have my sealed enclosure figured out (impressive i know!). Im obviously not gonna lose any sleep about not being too loud but I atleast want to be able to surprise some people.

Because im only running one sub, I was worried about how the dbzzz and was wondering if trying to build a ported enclosure with no experiance would be worth it?

Build it ported. If you build a sealed you will want more for sure. If you build ported and it is too loud at first, which it won't be, but if it is you just have to turn it down a little bit.

As for box building, it isn't tough as long as you have the tools necessary. If your using a circular saw it can make it a little bit less perfect, but is still very easy. I built all my boxes with a circular saw. If you do drastically mess up the ported box, a sheet of MDF is very cheap and isn't anything to really fret over.

That sub is geared more towards sealed applications than ported ones if you look at the specs, but I understand you can do almost anything with everything?
I don't know much about the specs of subs, besides the basics. FS, efficiency and a few others. I do know though from experince with my friends 2 12" SE's, and many other reviews on the forums that these subs shine when ported. Many will say that sealed they sound great, but aren't really anything amazing. When ported though, they are amazing subs and still sound great.

Thanks a lot guys. I was also kinda wondering if there was anyone who could help me or point me in the right direction with designing the box. I was thinking the recommended 1.5 at 34 hz. I just dont know how to calculate/tune the frequency //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

1.5 is not reccomended for a single 12........ 2 cu ft is, dont know where u got your info
not every single 12" sub is supposed to be in a 2 cu ft box... go on the website and look up what the recommendation is and use that.

Wrong

It sounds great sealed. Depends on how much room you want to lose, and power?

If you have only 500-600 RMS, go ported, for efficiency purposes.

If you have more power to feed it, go with sealed.

I wrote every box recommendation RE ever had...

Doing a ported box is just as easy as sealed. theres just 1-2 more cuts to make. Try 2.0ft @ 34hz for the SE 12.

thats what the website reccomends dumbass.... i have had my single se 12 in a

.75 cuft sealed, 1 cuft sealed, 1.25 cuft sealed, and 2.2 cu ft vented tuned to 32hz

and the vented is by far the winner. I couldnt tell much of a difference in SQ between sealed and vented, but vented gets way deeper and louder......and this was with 700 rms to it, just my .02
