Re-Coning and walling SA-12s Worth it?

Iv got a pair of SPL coiled (from sundown) SA12s on a SAZ-1500D @ 1ohm in a box thats beat to poo and to small for them. I only play music and the SPL coils have a 44Hz FS, so they unload fast at lower frequencies.. Here is my idea, re-coning with the super heavy copper D2 re-cone kits from SPL Audio. (Wiring the pair at .5ohm) taking out my back seat and building a very strong wall with plenty of breathing room for the subs. And doing a wood, or 6" Aero Port at 34Hz or lower depending on FS of the heavier coil.. The big question I have is, is this all worth it? or should I first get woofers with more motor strength (Zv.3s? or a TSNS motor lol) and move from there.. Any input at all would really help. Thanks!!

I would think you would want MORE cone area and MORE power for a wall even if it's in a car... I've NEVER seen 2 12's walled effectively so I'm assuming it's a bad idea. Grab 2 more 12's or trade them out for 2 15's or 2 18's and then I would say hell yeah.

I have done 4th order walls with 2 12s a few times. I have also seen a few extreme versions in the lanes doing very well.

All depends on what you want overall and your ending goal.

Didn't say it wasn't possible but it's not going to be easy... He doesn't have enough power for one to actually move anything, not being a **** op just stating that most walls have lots of power or lots of cone area or both.

Nah your not being a **** at all man, its true.... well kinda... Anyway My back seat is big enough (95 LeSabre) that I could in theory wall a pair of 15's.. But then again, if im going to buy new subs, I'll probably go with Z.v3s or NS V.3s when they come out.. But if I go that far I need more power, so probably a 3500D @.5, (*** maybe a 4500D) then electrical is next. Basically its going to be a **** load of money.. and I need to find what I can do with the system I have //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

j00bles had a pair of Level 4 18's on 4k walled in his car and he was SLAMMING HARD I know those are 18's but level 4's arent exactly THE BEST out they weren't even M2's. So IMO get a SOLID pair of 15's and do 2k each //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif You could also do 1 amp per sub and not run .5 ohms lmao and save on electrical a bit.

You also won't spend as much going another amp route... Something like a Crescendo would more than fit your needs while being only half the cost of a DC or Sundown amplifier. Sundown subs are well priced their amps are just way too rich for my blood.

That is not entirely true. If a very efficient enclosure was built it would perform very well. A buddy of mine used 2 12" memphis PR subs on 1k rms and does mid 150's legal.

Obviously that is a "burp" setup but it does put in work.

Power is not the answer all of the time. It is all about building around what limits you have. Then making sure you are getting everything you can from what you have.

Yes but is it in a wall? 2 12's in the trunk is one thing but in a full sized wall? I mean thats a massive enclosure for 2 12's most of the time if done properly.

I may need to talk to you soon lol. I'll see what happens, but It would be awesome to work with you on making a 4th order for this car, and finally trash that box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

4th orders aren't extremely easy like I said if you do the work right it can be loud... I have no idea the capability or knowledge of OP and his ability to design/build a 4th order but im sure if he talks to pro-rabbit he'll figure it out.

It's definatly feasable but the install has to be done right and the equipment has to be efficient and the box. As I said not always the easiest route D:

Yea, it is walled off. His is huge now. We just redid it and it is now a 6th order with some "tweaks" to see what it can do. He is shooting for a 160 off of 1000rms. lol..he has huge dreams I must say.

Would fun for sure. Always glad to help. We have been slammed here for a while and we are getting ready to change our shops location so it is going to get crazier before it is over, but it is for the better. We need more room like yesterday lol.
