-rattling sound coming from sub

I have a treo ssx with a couple thousand watts going to it, and the other day, it started rattling like crazy seemingly from underneath the dustcap. I turned the music off and pushed the cone inward a little bit, and then when I turned it back on, it worked fine - for a few hours. Later that day, after bumping pretty hard, it happened again!! Aaargh! So I push the sub in again, and it seems like if I push it in really hard, then it plays fine for a longer period of time than if I push it just a little bit. What do you guys think? Do I need a recone? A whole new sub? I'm not particularily versed in the inner-workings of subs, but I know a lot of you are. HELP!!!!! Thx.

not always true..but to get off to a good start take it out and look at it
While you are at it run it outside the enclosure and see if it still rattles. If it does your voice coils are probably rubbing.

Maybe early signs of burning a VC? Ive never had it happen to me but people would always push the sub in whne the VC gets f'd.
****.....not what I wanted to hear. But you've heard of others pushing their sub in like that to fix some sort of a problem, huh? Well, I'd bet money that my sub is ****ed then. I'll take it out and inspect it though, I can only hope for the best. It sucks though, 'cause these subs hit soooo hard. Easily the loudest system I've ever had. -sigh- I wonder how hard it's gonna be to get a treo reconed. Guess I'll find out. Thx.

Lets hope its not the problem and I'm wrong.

{the following link to a thread is meant for humor ONLY-- please don't go and get bent out of shape...lol} I had to retire an old JL12W4-- sniff sniff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

I recently had the same problem...not necissarily a "good" sub...but none-the-less...

scratchy 'sounds' = bad
Well, if it was a "scratchy" sound, then I'd know exactly what it was (I had the same 4000 watt amp on a single jl 13w6 for a couple of months, lol!). But this is like a "rattle" - almost as if there is a penny trapped underneath the dustcap, lol! But when I push on the dustcap, it goes away (for a little while anyway). I guess that's what I get for buying used. Although, it wouldn't be too hard for me to believe that somehow it's my fault (improper box or gains, etc.). I just never had a problem like this before, so it seems kinda screwy.

NO NO NO hey i know what it is...inspect your dustcap...same problem with my sub...the factory doesnt glue the whole dust cap down..same thing with mine...i can see where the glue starts and stops..so either glue it yourself or take it someplace to get the dustcap reglued...then get back at us....idk what Treos problem is but it happened to mine too...

EDIT - and **** yall jump to the worst conclusions right away lol...its not a scratchy sound its the ****in dust caps vibrating because the factory ran outta glue or forgot to glue half the cone...its wierd but try glueing it with super glue or somethin

dust cap is coming off. once i comes off it will stop, until then you cant stop it from doing it. just wait. it is an extremely common thing with all treo woofer, every model. once its off, scuff up the edges with some sand paper and glue it back on.
