Random Problem with Sound Cutting Out

So, I just had a new Pioneer FH-P8000BT installed in my car along with new Pioneer speakers.

My problem is that while driving the audio will randomly cut out. The head unit still has power, and the music is still "playing" (i.e. the counter on the CD time keeps progressing), and the unit still beeps when you press buttons...

There is just no music coming out of the speakers...

Then (seemingly at random) the sound will start working again.

I checked all the wiring, and it seems to be good. I tried shaking the wiring while music was playing, and it doesn't cut out.

From what I can gather from lots of posts on these forums it's probably a wiring issue, but I simply can't find any bad connections...

Any Ideas?

Its a Nissan Xterra, and from what I can tell, the guy left in the factory wiring to the speakers except for the tweeters.

At this point I think it has to be due to some bad wiring, as from what I can tell the headunit is going into "protect" mode and shutting down it's internal amp.

Am I correct in believing that some exposed wiring touching the car's chassis would cause this to happen?

Could it also simply be that the amp in the head unit is simply not powerful enough to push the 4 speakers and 2 tweeters (through crossovers)?

I plan on getting an amp and sub soon anyways, but I don't want to have the same guy install them if the problem is due to his bad wiring...
