quick Q: HD TV resolutions

well i keep hearing that a crappy brands 1080p (i.e. westinghouse, olevia, magnavox) will actually be worse than a good brands 720p in terms of picture quality.
fixed.

Picture quality is different than resolution. I suggest you personnaly go look at each television you are considering and making the decision for yourself. Because its kinda like car audio, some people prefer bright and some neutral.

and this cant be done by myself?
Yes and no. yes to a degree you can adjust it with the user options, brighness and contrast, those type of things. But no, it wouldn't be the same as a isf certified tech. They are pros with the equipment and expirience needed to actually "calibrate" the tv.

Quote from cnet. "Many of these require accessing the display's internal service menu and measuring the image with test equipment--two reasons why the service calls for a trained professional."

I know for a fact that newer LGs still have burn-in issues. I know tech is getting better, but I would still stay away if there is a chance you would have static images on it for extended periods of time.
Burn in Image is only for plasma not on LCD thats why they r diffrent..

plasma is for people who watches movies sports ect

LCD is for video games and image viewing and computers

here is all the info you need to know about lcd and plasma

..and i have a LG 50 inch plasma which i do get burn image for pausing video games but i use it to watch my blue rays //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

well i cant always watch a blueray movie on every tv in the store. plus some are online. right not i got my mind on a 42" 1080p phillips at target and a 32" 1080p samsung at CC. both are around the same price and nice. thoughts?

i think im gonna steer clear of vizio and viewsonic.

weird, i just started working at at&t sellin phones and my best friend who works there was talking about buying phone stuff at tigerdirect.com. i had never heard of it b4

When I bought my Westinghouse over a year ago, I was comparing them with the vizio's in the same size, 37". For some reason, the Westinghouse seems a lot bigger. I never measured them, but just going on what my eye see's. I personally like Westinghouse better as I never had a problem with it and looks great and I have a 47"Sony XBR5 LCD in the living room. Westinghouse is 1080i and Sony Full HD in 1080P. I think it was Jeebus or whatever said P only matters if you have the source to bring it in, like a PS3, which I have and that is where my Sony smashes my Westinghouse. When it is cable to cable, I can't tell much a difference, if anything I think my Westinghouse looks better than the Sony.

Westinghouse 880 out the door..

Sony 3200 out the door.........advantage, I have my PS3 hooked up to it and can pull true 1080p through it, which is worth it in some ways and same ways it isn't. I watch a lot of TV while in bed, lol!

Like I said earlier, Vizio is probably the best bang for the buck LCD out there. No idea why you would want to steer clear of them. Unfotunately, you seem dead set on getting a Phillips, which I don't understand.

Vizio is a decent brand, no doubt. My cousin has them and the place I eat at on a regular basis has a shit ton of them and they all have had solid things to say about them.
Yup. The first one I linked is a great deal. 42" 1080P LCD with 2-year Extended Warranty for under $1000 can't be beat
