quick Q: HD TV resolutions

Like I said earlier, Vizio is probably the best bang for the buck LCD out there. No idea why you would want to steer clear of them. Unfotunately, you seem dead set on getting a Phillips, which I don't understand.
no i think i just wanna go for the good brands now like samsung, sony, etc

FYI Philips/Magnavox are the same exact thing, just a different name on the outside. If you think they are crappy you might want to skip buying a Philips

Why don't you think Vizio is a good brand? Just because some kid who works at Circuit City (who probably gets commission based on the price of the stuff he sells) says they are better? Once again, the vast majority of employees at CC/BB/whatever have no idea what they're talking about.

If you wanna spend an extra $500 for the nametag get a Sony. Just cause it says Sony on it won't mean it is any better than Olevia, Westinghouse or Vizio.

Sorry if this was said, I don't feel like reading all the posts

Philips are cheap for a reason. They used to be a good brand back in the day, but have lost some things lately. If you check out the reviews from Cnet and other major places like Yahoo reviews, the Philips don't seem like a legit buy. We have the Magnavox here at the place I work in the cafe and they have replaced all TVs, which there are 3 of them due to them breaking. They have had one vizio up for a while now and still working and looks a shit ton better, but they don't run HD here, so...........

But plasmas still have problems with burn-in
not really. i just bought a samsung 42" plasma and it has these settings that prevent burn in. like it does pixel shifts and such while watching sports. you dont notice it but it moves images that are stationary to prevent burn in. plus it has a white out feature that takes care of any burn in

because theyre like half the price of the other brands. and im not saying its total shit, but if buying a 720p samsung would give me a better picture quality than a 1080p vizio, then thats not good enough for me. i dont buy TVs often, so i want the best out there now. it dont need to be 9824" or anything, just good quality and good picture.

well this is contrary to what many other people have told me

Then why come on here asking for peoples opinions, when all it took was going to a store and you believing 1 big box store associate? Yes 720 looks better at times, but if your running HD, then I would hit up at least a 1080i set.

A 720p Samsung will not be better than a 1080p Vizio (provided that you have a 1080p signal to send the Vizio). I have seen several Samsung LCDs and they are nothing special. Nice, but no better than the Vizios I've seen

its not 1 person, didnt you read my post? alot of people have said this, people on here have said it too. you cant trash talk phillips then say all 1080p's are the same, thats the most hypocrital statement ever.

ok, well i will take your comment into consideration. if i were to get a cheaper brand i guess the only thing else that would matter is reliablilty right? which TV would last the longest? vizio? westinghouse? sanyo?

Don't know. I've owned an SDTV Sanyo for several years with no trouble. I actually think that the smaller Sanyo LCDs have a decent picture on them as well (I contemplated buying a 26" Sanyo LCD for a while). I couldn't tell you which brand has better customer service either. However, I can tell you that Tiger Direct has great customer service, and if you get that 42" Vizio from them and also get the extended warranty, they will take care of you if you have any problems.
