quick Q: HD TV resolutions

All 1080p is not the same, different manufacturers use different chips to decode and display the signal so saying all 1080p signals are going to look the same is false

1080p is definately the way to go for being future proof, but if you are upgrading from analog 720p may be perfectly fine for you right now until 1080p prices drop even more in the next few years

Sony, Monster, Bose, etc. are all marketing hype, you pay a huge amount more just for the name.

Sonys XBR line is nice, but you can get the same performance from an LCD costing much less.

If I wanted to buy a name brand it would be Mitsubishi, Pioneer, Hitachi, Toshiba or maybe Samsung. If I wanted more "bang for my buck" then it would be Westinghouse, Vizio, Olevia and BenQ.

Don't know. I've owned an SDTV Sanyo for several years with no trouble. I actually think that the smaller Sanyo LCDs have a decent picture on them as well (I contemplated buying a 26" Sanyo LCD for a while). I couldn't tell you which brand has better customer service either. However, I can tell you that Tiger Direct has great customer service, and if you get that 42" Vizio from them and also get the extended warranty, they will take care of you if you have any problems.
well if im buying a lower brand im def getting a good warranty. do they, or any other places, offer long warranties? like 5-10 years or anything?

ok, well i get my Bday present from my gf tonight. if its ps3, im getting 1080p for sure lol. oherwise maybe ill consider a nice samsung 720p or another top brand (since its affordable)

its not 1 person, didnt you read my post? alot of people have said this, people on here have said it too. you cant trash talk phillips then say all 1080p's are the same, thats the most hypocrital statement ever.
Who else here has said 720 is better than 1080i? I didn't read all the posts, but I highly doubt that.

I wasn't really trash talking Phillips, it is what I have seen with my own two eyes. And were did I say all 1080p's are the same?

If you are getting a PS3, then get a 1080p.

i upgraded from a 40" mitsubishi tube, which back in 2000 was the best and largest analog tv made. it was professionally calibrated from day one and recalibrated every other year since and still has an amazing picture for an analog tv

however the picture on it doesn't even compare to the picture on my 37" 720p Olevia

kinda sucks that i paid $4000 for the Mitsu and $650 for the Olevia

Nobody offers a warranty that long. Most TVs only come with a one year warranty, and I don't think any stores are going to offer more than a 3 year extended service plan.

That is true to some extent. Just make sure you get progressive scanned not interlace. Usually 720 p is good start up to LCD. They usually upscale to 1080i. Trust me you will notice the difference. I cant expain everything on here, but if you have any questions just PM me. I did this Sh8t for over a year a best buy, so I know my sh8t. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I said that I personally prefer 720p to 1080i because an interlacing scan blurs edges somewhat and also can blur small print (ESPN tickers, etc.). I also said that investing in a 1080p set is only a good idea if you get a 42" or larger TV. Nobody here said that a "good" 720p would be better than a "crappy" 1080p.

But all LCDs are prgressive scan, so it doesn't really matter.

Go over to avsforum and do some researching. LOTS of good info and reviews on pretty much every HD TV out there.

1080 will not show an advantage on a screen under 50" unless you sit 2' from the TV. Save your $$$ and spend it on a good DVD player as that can make/break the image your TV displays...

Not true. The XBR line converts anything plugged into to high definition. The Samsung LNT4069F does similiar but not as good as the XBR. The XBR is the best T.V. with regards to LCD, however for less money I'd go with the Sony S series or the Samsung 4 or 5 Series.

1080p is a good idea if you get a larger set and you plan on keeping it for some time. Technology changes so fast these days, it is a good idea to invest in tech that will stand up to future developments. You may not be able to use the 1080p much right now, but you can use current HD signals (which look great anyway) and you won't have to buy a new TV in two years when 1080p signals become prevalent

yeah. that samsung at CC was a grand. i might go for that. esp now that i dont need to buy wii //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
