Well, me and a buddy were installing some alpine type-S speakers into his car today, and they sound like CRAP so we're trying to figure out where we went wrong. They get lots of static at mid volume, and the midbass is horrible. Any ideas? they are alpine type-S speakers on a alpine 9852 deck.

did you wire them out of phase? ive heard thoes before, and I didn't think they were "awesome", but def. sounded decent to me..... something is wrong..... perhaps they shipped blown or something...... voice coil could be out of round or line..... I guess many variables...

its ALL of the speakers though. explain to me what being out of phase is, and would running off HU power effect htem that much? i mean they cant really get loud at all?
I meant that when wiring the speakers you put positive on neg and viseversa...... I guess though if they were all out of phase you wouldnt notice it though... maybe there is something wrong with the internal amp.....I had an old JVC that would crap out the left side, and it sounded quiet and staticy.....

Its kind of strange situation though.....

okay the rear ones ar emessed up i just went and checked some stuff

well my issue seems to be the stock speakers each had FOUR wires going to them, and i used all four of them which i thought were spli tinto positive and negatives. Should i just double check and make sure if they are positive or negative or not, or do i only use one set of the wires for each speaker?

yea if not enough watts goin to them they'll distort
Not true...they will only distort off of a head unit if you turn the head unit up to clipping level. And I hope you didn't go that far with them.

Do they sound like there is something in them? Because coaxes can easily get stuff in the voice coil if you aren't careful. Dust or even very small rocks and slip between the tweeter post and the cone.

Were there other speakers running off of the HU before you installed these? What did they sound like?

BUMP

Well, i did some troubleshooting, and its the rear speakers that are wired wrong. the ones up front sound great when i fade all controls to the front, but when i fade the speakers evenly, i get the distortion, so im assuming the pos and neg's are mixed on the rear speakers?

my issue is, the stock speakers that were there had FOUR wires to EACH speaker, so theres 8 wires back there. I just put (what i thought to be) the two positives and two negatives into one, then put in the aftermarket speakers. IS this the issue, or would it be the positive and negatives being mixed?

EDIT/reminder: this is a 2002 chevy cavalier, if that matters at all
