I am looking to findout about the "softmod" to these. Some allow you to play downloaded/backup games. One site is suppose to give you the software, how tos and unlimited free downloads of games. Kinda reminds me of limewire.

So has anyone done this already, where did you get it, can I actully download games or like rent them and copy them, do I need to hook up an external harddrive to it, etc.

I do not want to lock it up or get any other crap that will damage it. If thats what will happen then I will just buy the games. Also was told you can buy points and download games online with it directly to the console. Will it need an SD card or an external harddrive attached?

One place I found:

http://wiidownloads.com/

http://www.mywiidownloads.com/Register.htm

Appreciate the info.

One of my friends just did this and you need a sd card (for the software) and a flashdrive (for the games)

if you would like to know where to get games PM me... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

For mine, I mean uh someone I know, just downloading and burning them (internal mod chip). The way it's modded right now some of the newer games can temporarily crash the wii, like super mario world or w/e it's called. My buddy currently plays from a usb jump drive. He said the SD card just has backup files and info on it. He will be re-modding it with a usb loader, so the 250G hard drive will handle game storage. Truthfully I don't know too much about the details. He did the mod and the g/f gets the games.

Do not touch those site you listed. Soft modding the Wii with Homebrew channel is easy, but as with any modification, you have a chance of bricking the console.

You will want to use banner bomb to get the homebrew channel on. Once that is on you can configure your Wii to play many different ways.

Play burned backups from downloaded ISO(through any other avenue one uses to obtain media such as torrents).

Play the ISO image via USB hard drive.

Play from thumb drives.

Play emulators of old console systems through SD

You will need an SD card to perform the hacks and install software.

Here are site you must read and ask questions on.

As you start reading threads you will find other good forums for information.

A good central location for popular homebrew apps can be found here.

wiihacks.com has all the info you need. i did it a few days ago and no you dont need a flash drive to play games lol. you just download them and burn them on a dvd.
http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/16970-new-3-1-4-1-softmod-any-wii.html has everything you need in one thread and is what i used.
I prefer running the ISO from HDD and recomend it. In order to run burned discs you need to use CIOScorp which will cause homebrew not to update or many other programs because they don't like installing on the CIOScopr ioses. However you can uninstall Ccorp and update then reinstall. I just see no point when external HDDs are so cheap now and I don't have to get up to change discs to play another game. I also use RAWKSD to import GH,RB versions, and custom songs into RB2 and Rawk will not work with CIOScorp.

WiiHacks is another good site. I just didn't think of it earlier today. I still prefer GBA though. I would suggest reading from all of them before deciding on a plan of attack though. You need to know exactly what you want to do with the console since there are quite a few different ways to set it up.

Hey Mike, I will let you know how mine goes and stuff when I do it. I got about 4 different people with 4+ different sites. So I am trying to figure out which to use.

All I want to do is

download games onto dvds to use

be able to download games into a harddrive or on the wii directly to play them

be able to play dvds

and whatever else is possible. But mostly just the games

I've got it softmodded and it was easy. I can't figure out the usb loader gx, it won't read the disk to burn it to the HDD and I get a reboot error everytime and I have to load it from the homebrew channel everytime, unlike IamDeMan's vid of the program being on the wii home. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

So you don't have to open HB, you need to download and install the USBloaderGX forwarder channel wad. http://sites.google.com/site/usbloadergui/downloads/forwarders

Is it not reading your game disc or your HDD? Is the HDD formatted properly?

Try downloading a game ISO and putting it on the HDD with your PC using WBFS manager http://wbfsmanager.codeplex.com/

Wondering if you could download it through the wii to the harddrive since it is able to get online.

Has anyone seen the youtube videos of a guy doing it? Guess its from the wiihack site.

If you find it let me know. I have yet to see that ability. Never worried about either though. Pretty easy to plug the drive into my PC and move the game to it. It has potential to, but someone would need to write a torrent client for it.

Ok, I did it by following wiihacks version due to the fact you also have a video install on you tube to kinda help with. Only issues I ran into is the iso249 had to go through 3 different ones to do. Then follow the steps in the post for that part.

But questions, do I need to do the iso70 install and do the priiloader?

I have theSavegame manager on the SD card for apps but does it do it auto or does the card have to be in there?

I think I got it all right, just need a hard drive to do it since theres a high chance I got the new chip that wont allow burn dvd-rs to play.
