question about welding wire

It's got some serious girth..
Thats what she said!

Lol sorry but is that the mcm wire? Thats like what 4/0?

And how is SH and KNU rating their cable. Welding cable ampacity is rated at 100'+ lengths ....
SH will not do rated power on a sine wave nor knu as they rate there wire on a maximum amperage for a certain time frame while welding does heat test in time frames.

Read the chart .... amp draw @ duty cycle @ ft of cable @ sec voltage. Which in a avg welder is DC from 10 - 50v

SO, if you want to run 400 amps 100% of the time, 24/7 you would need to run 3/0 up to 50', prob get away with 2/0 if under 25' ... But who pulls 400 amps 100% of the day ????
