whew....the basement engineers are throwing terminology like it's a food fight! despite all the wonderful info you got above (some was actually great), the answer to your question is: yes, you can buy pure silver speaker wires such as here: Kimber Kable - KS 6068.

that some where end up using RCAs. all optical would be awesome.
A fully optioned H/U with x-overs, eq, t/a... and optical straight to your amplifiers! wouldn't get much better than that!

You can convert back to RCA's just before the amps. All optical would be ideal, but generally not necessary. If you get induced noise in that few inches of RCA cable, you have bigger problems anyway.

I have an Alpine w200 that uses an optical between it and the h701. Than rca from there
