protection mode (RCA connection)?

the other day i was just screwing around to try and figure out why my amp was going into protection. so i hooked it up and at first it went into protection but then came out and was fine so i then proceeded to hook up the speackers but when i connected the RCA's it went back into protection but when i disconnected them and disconnected the battery and reconnected the battery again it was out of protection. so i figure it must be something with the RCA connection but what? i have another amp that is working fine so i know it is not any issue with wireing. also it was a mystery why it went into protection in the first place. i go to bed with it working then the next day i turn it on and it wont work took it apart nothing wrong. does anyone have an idea about whats wrong. thanks for the help.

Possibly shorted RCA's to ground...Disconnect RCA's from head unit and amp and check with reference to ground on the RCA's main and ground leads.

what do you mean ground for the RCA's. where would this be.
