Project: wifes old school Camry

Depends on the car, new BMWs and Mercedes are extremely unreliable, in fact they are some of the most unreliable cars on the market. I also think it's stupid to look at cars as investments, my theory is buy a car, run it until it's dead then buy a new one, 5 years without car payments saves you more than a good resale value.
yea, when i say foreign I'm refering to toyota, honda, acura, etc. not mercedes, bmw, lamborgini etc.....

also I just dont see a cavalier lasting longer than a civic, but hey thats just me

employee discounting would probably offset the cost of the steeper depreciation
I'm glad you dont buy cars as investments, but anything I spend money on I see as an investment. Just my opinion, but Foreign built cars are far superior in both build quality, durability, and reliability....
Quality is subjective in some respects, but for the most part obviously people feel this way toward imports as dictated by sales. I also admitted myself that the car feels solid. My GTO did too, but you could argue that it was an import lol.

Points 2 & 3 are false in current auto markets. Every Major mfg is so close in stats on those points that all(domestic and imports) a great on those. Your notion is built upon a past history that the American mfgs have corrected. Between platform sharing, using similar tech with similar results the auto market has been put on an even keel with durability/reliability. This is easily evidenced by awards and surveying programs.

I wasn't getting a civic with 50k and all record for 2k. As a work car for 2k if it lasts a year, I got my moneys worth. As far as new, I would still do the cav(or more fitting today the HHR) because of my loyalty to GM and the discount. For most thoguh I could see the Civic being a better choice when buying new.

I'm sorry but I fail to see where a cobalt with the ecotech motor will last longer than the proven honda 4 cyl engines....Old stigma dies hard, and after working on cavaliers for the past 5 years i have to say they are a poorly built vehicle

Nice, needs rims though. Black should look nice, or matching gunmetal. If you want to go all out, I'm really digging the new trend of color matching the outer RIM of the wheel, and then painting the center black. I think some 19s, with gunmetal color-matched outer rims, and black centers/spokes would look really good with some tint all the way around. BTW, when I read the title, I was expecting this:

LOL.

Must not know much about the ecotech engines then. They are a stong engine. Honestly though, it all comes down to how well you take care of your ride.

I test drove a loaded down HHR when I was looking for something a little bigger. My god, those things are cheaply made. Looking out the front when at a light not even close to it, I had to put my head near the glass to see if it was green.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I hated most everything about the HHR. Looks wise, not too bad, interior was horrid, worse than my Focus, which is hard to do. Everything about the interior in that was just wrong.

The engine wasn't horrid, but seem to lag and after driving my Focus, especially after modding it out some was very hard to let it go. Still have it and keeping it. Is small, but meh, that is what the fiance's car is for.

Well according to vision problems per 100 vehicles amongst Domestic and imports is nearly even. The ecotech is **** near a rip off these import 4 bangers and employs similar tech. How can you say it can't compete. Now build quality, sure. But your reliability BS is out the window and goes against what every major reporting agency is saying about current domestic cars.

I won't argue that GM isn't making cars people want to buy, that is obvious by sales alone. However reliability claims like yours are a total farce. Still around from the time America was playing catchup in the small car world.

Yes they are horrid cars, but it is the class they are in. I enjoy the utility of it for it's price plus at my price it become a no brainer. If I didn't get the discount I would seriously look at Calibers.

As I said earlier, Old stigmas die hard. Ill just go out and drive my 1990 Honda CRX with 212,000 miles and go by the junkyard where cavaliers with less than half that mileage and are 5-6 years newer sit. Your not going to convince me that GM/Ford/Dodge's vehicles can compete with a honda, ive worked on too many of each of them to agree.

Maybe current production is different, but we'll see in 4-5 years when these cars have aged
