Project 626

He sold the moped and now we have the 9886 ready and waiting. We just finished tearing the interior apart to get it ready for wiring. We had to remove the back seat to get the sub enclosure in. Wont fit thru the trunk opening //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Took the front door panels off as well as the defroster vent cover that houses the factory tweeters. We also decided to mount the speakers in the factory openings.

6 3/4 components up front with the tweeters in the stock locations. Will put the 5 1/4 comps in the rear deck.

Took a picture of the speaker I pulled from the door. Enough rust on there? Theres actually a small pile of rust stuck to the speaker. Nice huh?

Hope to have the power cabling run and front speaker wires tomorrow.

More progress on the car. Finally got back to work yesterday and started on the box again. A little spot putty and some finish sanding and on with the final paint. Masked the port and shot the final coats today. Tomorrow the sub gets mounted and if I have time I will give it a test run on the QSC 1450 in the shop.

I also ran the power cable over the weekend. Cut holes in the fire wall and installed 2 grommets for the positive and negative run to the trunk. Included a pict of my shorebilly wire cutter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I have the cables run and ready to start wiring up the distros and fuse blocks. That box of goodies just came in yesterday.

I also had some extra time today to start on the door pods. I was going for a stock speaker setup at first but decided that that was boring. I havent done any glassing in a few years so I decided to do another set of door pods. Think I did OK for being rusty. Have picts of the rings placed where I will have them mounted. Also picts of the base I will work off of and use to attach the pods to the doors. I want to have them wrapped tomorrow buy I ran out of resin and have to wait till my order gets delivered. Hopefully the end of this week.

Good dad.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Its looking real good.

You have glassing skills also??!!

You da man!

Fourth time glassing. First was the bottom of my trucks sub enclosure. The front, back, sides and top were MDF. I made a set of pods for my front doors but didnt like the way they looked so off to the dumpster they went.

These are the rear pods in my truck now. These turned out nice.

The components Im putting in the car were the ones I was putting in my truck. My little donation to his project.

I hit a snag today. I cant fish the speaker wire for the doors thru the existing wiring passage. I cant even get to the back side of the thing in the car. Plus its a plug in harness so I cant go thru it anyways.

Any suggestions on how to fabricate a watertight passageway (whatever the rubber sleeve is called) for running my speaker wires from the cabin into the doors?

I can drill a hole in the cabin and door no problem but dont want to just run wire thru there and leave it all exposed and rigged up.

Took a few videos today after I got the sub mounted.

I also found the answer to my door wiring problem. I have to drill a few holes thru that molex connector. The bad part is im going to have to remove the doors to do it. All I know is that its going to be a pain in the ***. Even after I get thru the molex its going to be a ***** to get the wires into the cabin.

Sweet!!

With some cabin gain that thing is really gonna come alive.

With the the connector, your doing it the clean/right way. I probaly would have cheated and spliced/soldered into the factory wires powering the door speaker and soldered the factory wires/plug to connect to the after market speaker.

Keep up the good work.

If I was only running one set of speakers I would have done just that. I need to run 3 sets of wire in the door, 2 for the mids and one for the tweeter in the door panel. The 2nd tweeter goes in the dash and the crossovers go under the dash. After seeing all the water on the old speaker Im afraid to put the crossovers in the doors.

One more video before bed

DUH!!?? Forgot your running more than a set in each door.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Have the door panels ready to wrap. Rings installed and ready to go. Got my fiberglass resin from US Composites today but left my fiberglass matte at the shop. All I can do this weekend is wet down the fabric and let it set up until Monday. Weather will be great this weekend so I should have all the wiring finished, the head unit installed and get most of the FatMat laid down .

Picts of the rings on the door panel. I will post up the wrapped picts when I get it all done.

Oh, and by the way, FcuK HiFiSoundConnection and their poor customer service.

Got the electrical under the hood finished. Wiring the doors is nothing but trouble. There is just no room to get near the harness in the cabin. Will try plan 2 on the doors tomorrow. My Boy is running the interconnects and the remote after work today. I just playing with the door pod I have here with me at the house.

1 Pod all wrapped and ready for glass tomorrow. Hope to have them ready to mount in a few days.

More progress from the last few days.

Finished the bracket to hold the fuse block. That finishes all the electrical up front.

Finished laying up all the chop matte and hit it a few times with the grinder. Spread a coat of Rage over the pods and sanded and sanded and sanded //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Shot a coat of black paint i had left over from another project. Just had to see what they looked like with some finish on them. Still have to spray them with primer and do some spot filling on a few places. Then sand again and give them a final painting. Going to leave them satin black until we paint the car. I will paint them to match the body color. Which just might be satin or flat black //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Turned out pretty good.
