Project 626

Thanks for the props. Yea that thing is solid as hell and weighs 70 -80 lbs without the sub. If the weather cooperates we will have the car all wired up soon. Then when I get the box in the trunk I can start figuring out how to set the amps up. Trying to keep the access for the spare tire and all this stuff. We just got back from 2 hours at the DMV getting the tags and title. The cars all legal now and ready to hit the road.

Now I have to post up a few items to trade in the forums for the rest of the setup. Still need a head unit and some electrical items and speaker wire. He's also putting his mopeds on Craigs List to help with the fundage. Were going to fork out for a good head unit, probably an Alpine 9886.

If you are going to go that far look into the 9887. I really like it and if you ever wanted to upgrade and run an active set up it is fairly easy. Just something to think about before you purchase.

I dont know about what everyone else thinks but I can DEFINATELY tell that you are building this for your son. There is some SERIOUS TLC in that box my friend. The attention to detail is amazing. I cant wait t see the final product. That box would cost BIG BUCKS to have made....congrats and good luck. Lucky kid

just a thought to you DAD.. Idk what you do but if you need extra money it appears you do great work you could probably sell boxes on here..
I thought about it but my home shop has much to be desired. I do personal projects at work (family business) but I dont like hanging out alone late nights away from home. I am planning on how to get money together and rebuild my garage/shed AKA the S#*t Hole. Im a jack of all trades I guess. Im a Corian certified fabricator, worked in cabinet and laminate shops for years. Framed and trimmed houses for a few too. Now I design HVAC systems and fabricate residential and commercial duct systems at work. You can see the sheet metal tools and products in all the shots.

I also try and do good work regardless of who its for, call it personal pride. If I spend a lot of time on a project and it turns out like crap Im known to just toss it in the dumpster and start again. Learn from my mistakes and try until Im happy with the end product.

The higher amperage's and multiple amps is the only thing new Im doing here.

Did get to start on the electrical yesterday and might have picts of that today. Wiring the positive to the alternator in that car is going to be a pain in the ***. I did manage to pry the cap off the positive terminal and just need to figure out how to get a wrench or socket back there to get my cable hooked up. I cant see anything and have to do it all by feel. Next is the + and - 1/0 runs to the trunk.

I totally agree with this guy.

yeah you picked the wrong site to show off your build! this site is full of a bunch of teenage keyboard comandos that know nothing but ragging on other people because you choose not to do it there way.most the people i know on here wont post there builds because of this. you are on the right track with your build i would say something about your choice of wood but I've used that stuff at work and it is stout and will hold up. think it was about $80-$100 a sheet if i remeber right. dont let any of these kids around here chase you off the forum

Got a little done yesterday. Have the big 3 all done. Power from the alt to the battery, negative to the chassis and negative to the engine. Have to fabricate a bracket to hold the fuse block. Will do that in the shop tomorrow. I also picked up some spot putty for the box to take care of a few pin holes and small imperfections.

Nothing special just some wire. Heres a pict of the alt too. That was a ***** to wire up. Took us almost 2 hours to disconnect one bolt and install the new power cable //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

My alt was the same way, cant even see the thing from the top of the engine lol, was a PAIN to get the big 3 power wire onto it and bolt it back down, probly took me a good hour aswell

Paint that box and throw up some pics!!

Painting starts tomorrow. I should at least have the port touched up. I will probably let that dry before masking it off and painting the rest of the box. I will only be in there one day this week, tomorrow, so whatever I don't get done will be have to wait until Monday.
