Problem with PG RSDs

So today TreyE and I spent the morning installing my brand new set of PG RSDs into my volvo in place of my Boston Pro 60s. Everything went relatively smoothly until it came time to test the speakers. With just one door hooked up, everything sounded fine. Clean music for several minutes, no problems.

After getting both of the doors all wired together (all connections soldered, double checked) We went to test the speakers. We turn the car on (speakers powered at this point by an MA HK398) and play music for 10-15 seconds before an unbearably loud screeching comes from every speaker. This squeeking does not change with volume, but it consistent, almost like a hurricane/tornado warning on the tv. At the same time, both of my fuses on the MA amp popped and the lights dimmed a bit.

After some trouble we ended up throwing in a kicker kx300.2, and rechecked all the wiring again. Turn the car on, same thing. 10-15 seconds of music and then the screeching, it only goes off when I turn the HU off. The fuses on the kicker amp did not pop however, probably because they are much larger...

Anyone have any experience with this? Remember I had a working front stage before this, and I didn't change anything other than the speakers. What could that noise be? It sort of sounds like engine noise, but it happens regardless of volume and if the car is off. Also the speakers don't appear to be damaged by this, but I could be wrong.

Anything is appreciated...thanks.

sounds like a problem with some wiring somewhere or the head unit. speakers don't just make strange noises by themselves for no reason. it does seem like you ruled out the amp being the problem since you swapped it out and it does the same thing.

should keep the boston pro's. The rsd's are the most over hyped comp set I have seen. Sure they have great midbass for the money..but thats about the only thing they have going for them imo.

the tweeters are pretty nice too, but point taken. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I like the RSDs and all, but why would you replace your Boston pros with them?!?!?!?

I had a problem like this once. It ended up that a small string of speaker wire was touching the basket on one of my mids.

I had a similar issue a couple years ago when I first re-wired my system.Loud screeching sound out of nowhere, it physically hurt my ears with the horns. The cause was a bad RCA cable, ended up blowing one of the diaphragms though.
