problem with my DD mids bottoming out

rms on them is 60, and 80 for music. my amp puts out 60x2. i have it set at about 75-80hz HPF, and the gain barely a quater way up and i can hear them bottoming out. when i take them out and play them free air, it does not do this. i dont understand why its doing this. any ideas

It might not be the mids. Maybe the doorpanel or the door itself?

This is your problem, most likely.

no they are mounted outside the door panel on an MDF ring. waiting for some leather to wrap it in, so its not hitting anything. but i did notice where the screws go in, it makes the surround dent in a little bit. ill try using smaller screws and see if that helps

if they dont do it free air, it really doesnt make sense... im sure with 2.6K post you know what bottoming out sounds like... but if you dont, it can be rather violent sounding...

i havent looked at the comps at all, but if you're sure its not hitting anything on the interior...

tinsel slap maybe? or is the speaker wire somehow getting by the cone? i dont know im just taking shots in the dark
