Problem with HU install

Well, I'm having trouble installing a HU that I just bought here on the forums. I was also having problems with the old HU that was in my car when I bought it. When I bought the car a few weeks ago it had an old pioneer DEH-1000 in it, and it was working perfectly. I removed the center console (and radio) to do some work on the car and when I put it back in, it didn't work. I came to the conclusion that somewhere along the line I must have blown the HU, as I couldn't come up with a better idea.

BTW, I started a couple threads on the forum for my type of car that I frequent explaining the problem: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=280107

That was a few weeks ago; fast forward to this weekend - I installed an Alpine cda-9811 in the car, and it doesn't power up either.

I've got the speaker wires connected properly from the alpine to factory wires (but even if they were wrong that wouldn't cause the unit to not work...), and I've got 3 other wires from the Alpine's harness connected, the ground wire, switched power and permanent power. Aren't those the only wires that need to be connected? There are three other wires on the alpine's harness - remote amp turn on (not needed right now), power antenna lead (shouldn't be needed to turn radio on right?), and audio interupt lead (also not needed to turn unit on). Is there something I am missing?

I've got the black ground wire from the alpine connected to the brown ground in my car, the yellow permanent power connected to the red/white perm power in my car, and the red switched power on the Alpine connected to the green switched power in my car; shouldn't that be all that I need to make the thing turn on/play music?

Does anyone think the antenna could be the problem? Does the antenna have to be plugged into the alpine in order for the unit to turn on?

I'm thinking about making a whole new power circuit for the HU to run off of (connect the HU directly to the battery with inline fuse like you would hook up an amp, and finding another switched power source in the car to connect the switched power to the Alpine).

Any ideas?

i have had faulty fuses b4, give it a check, and if you have a dmm check for continuity on the fuses and for 12v on the constant wire and 12v on the switched wire when on
