Problem with amp shutting off.

I installed my sony xplod 1000 watt 2 channel amp in my car, when i turn the car on it will power on, and it works fine for about a minute or less, depending on how loud i bump the music. if i keep it low it will remain on longer. The light on the amp will switch from green, to Red and will stay red. Anyone know whats going on here? maybe a false setting? i am powering 2 12 inch black xplods 1300 max rates 380 watts each.

Check the voice coils on your speakers, make sure you don't have a voice coil that has damage and may be lower impedance than it's supposed to be. I have a DVC Kicker Comp VR here at my shop that was like .6ohms on one coil and 1.4 or something on the other, supposed to be 4 ohms each. The speaker still worked, but would eventually kick the amp into protect or blow the amp up.

Other than that, check your voltage while the amp is on, it may be dropping too low, bad power or ground connection somewhere.

If all that checks out, there may be something going on inside the amp that will need to be repaired.

I would definatley check the ground, and as mentioned check the ohm # presented to the amplifier. Chances are it is just tripping the low ohm protection of the amp.

It could also be the sony amp period. They are crap and it probabily cant do what your asking it to.

I had the same problem when we installed my system. The red probably means it's going into protect, if Sony has one? lol. anyways. My Orion amp kept going into protect and we couldn't figure out why so we checked the wiring to the amp and it was wired into 1 ohm but then when we checked the sub we bullshitted the wiring there. So basically check your wiring and you should be straight.
