Problem installing hu in 2001 silverado

yeah man i checked every fuse i have. and i have one yellow wire and about 4 wires different shades of green

take it somewhere that knows what they're doing, you should have gotten the harness you needed in the first place instead of cutting that shit off..it's $40 tops at wal-mart.

Green is going to be your switched accy. You will have a light green which is positive right front speaker, and a dark green which is negative right front speaker. Then you will have another green which will give you your accy. I know you said you checked every fuse, but i've overlooked them as well in those trucks, and had to go back and check them again. I've done hundreds of those trucks, and its never taken me three days to do a radio. check them again, make sure you have a good ground, and if all else fails take it to someone and pay to get it working. It should only take an experienced person 5 minutes to hardwire it up for you.

And next time buy the harness. I know it seems like a waste of money, but its the correct, easiest, and fastest way to get the install done.

**** finally...thank you crx4luke. i found the correct green light and used that as an ignition wire instead of the yellow like my friend who is supposed to know all about car aduio and who swore up and down he looked up online at istalldr or somethin and it said to use yellow.

Glad you got it working. Next time don't cut the harness off. lol

But on a side note, It was about 98, 99 or 2000 that GM switched from using the yellow wire for ignition on their trucks, to using the green wire. Anything before then used yellow, they just switched it for a couple of years before they started doing a databus turn on. I think a lot of people got confused on whether or not yours had databus turn on in it because of the year. 2001 was a crossover year between the class 2 databus trucks, and the older style with a true accy turn on behind the radio.
