decided to put this in general since i dont have any for sure knowledge to the cause of this problem.

i currently have what is in my sig, and recently when playing music at high volumes my subs dim noticably in output (become quiet). there hasnt been any pattern as to when this happens, sometimes 2 mins into playing, sometimes they go for 20 mins before this happens. then all of a sudden they will go back to playing at normal volume. has something to do with sub channel somewhere, because my mids and tweets do not do this at all. could the amp be getting old and weak? dont think anything is getting warm, considering it is winter! any suggestions appreciated.

loose connections, ground,or maybe the amp is going bad.had an amp do the same a few years back ,would work all at 4 ohms but when dropped to 2 ohms ,it would play a bit ,but then the woofers would get quieter then cut of a bit then come back on.not sure what it was .the amp was a crossfire bmf 1000

huh, thats what i was kind thinkin. im sure the amp is at least 10 years old, and ive only had it for 4 years of that. and im running it at 2 ohms...

You might see if your battery needs replacing also? Get your battery checked out, with and without a load on it.Free at Orielys, and Autozone.just a suggestion since it has been working fine for a while, and now loosing power.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have some 15+yr old amps, and still working pretty good.Get your battery checked out first..IMO

Sounds like current limiting is kicking in. Could be a bad component within the amp, could be a partially shorted coil lowering the impedance, could be heat, or it could be a poor ground choking off the voltage going into the amp and causing all sorts of fits in the power supply. Hell, I've even seen some amps freak out b/c of an air leak in the box.

The 1st thing I'd check is to see if it really is the amp and not the HU. Use an MP3 player & plug that directly into the inputs of the amp via RCA to mini cables. That effectively takes the HU out of the 'loop' and isolates the amp & subs. If it still does it; verify there isn't a leak in the box and verify that all the coils read the same.
