ok i hve a 15 inch alpine type r. and i was running the cheapest kenwood deck with 2 v preouts and i hit 138.4. so i got one of the best single din kenwood deck. the kdc x 895 with 4 v preouts. and i installed it and now i hit 135.2 and dosent hit nowhere as hard. any suggestions whats wrong? and the deck i got brand new. i thought since its 4 v instead of 2v. it would be alot louder

Did you re adjust the gain on the amp after putting in the new h/u? If not you are clipping the **** out of it.

And the new h/u will just give the amp a cleaner signal and clip less or at a higher volume level, it wont necessarily give you a boost in your subs output.

preout voltage has nothing to do with getting louder on the meter...

All it does is allow the user to turn the gain down on the amp to match the HU's output...

And since the gain on an amp isn't a volume control.. that is also why i very rarely will ever recommend anybody using a line driver unless they are running a LOT of amps and the signals going into them are virtually non-existent.

Now, having the gain cranked to max may induce, "MAY", a light amount of noise but doubt it would be audible.

I would look into the settings on the headunit itself.

Sub level output

bass setting

Loudness

EQ

All of those things can have an effect on the sub's ability to get loud or less loud.

Assuming you have changed absolutely nothing except the headunit.. check those things above.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to check to make sure both channels on the RCAs are plugged in and working from the headunit to the amp as well.

If one of those channels is dead, then you would only be getting half the signal which would force you to crank the gain a lot higher to match preout voltage.

on the head unit i turn the sub level all the way up and down. and dosent effect it. i turn the sub off on the hu and the sub still goes. only the bass adjust affects the sub which affects all the bass.

then you do not have the rcas plugged into the subout on the headunit...

And... i'm assuming there has to be a subout on the headunit or else there wouldn't be a sublevel control..

So simply, it appears they are plugged into the wrong preouts.. simple fix.

ok thanks hopefully that the problem i dident play with it when i was putting it in i was just excited to get it in and work. ill take a look at it today maybe

ok cause i used the top set. and i used the middle set for my monster ipod cable. so ill put that on the top and see if it works

i used the middle set for my monster ipod cable.
Pretty sure the top set of rca outs is the rear, middle is front & bottom is sub out. Also I believe the only aux input is right below the usb on the front so I'm not sure why you would be plugging your "monster i pod cable" into any of the rca's on the back.

Just use a regular ipod cable & plug it into the usb on the front, that unit is made to control ipods that way. You cant plug it in the back, those are all outputs, not inputs.

So you tested those same RCA wires with your phone directly and it did work? Also, to clarify, the amp does turn on and you redid the ground cable?

Love the site, arguments over non-issues, not so much. ;)

Using a Y RCA to split signal from amp to amp to give both amps the signal they need from the HU and subs in different /separate enclosures tuned...
