Pretty dissapointing results with this amp repair :(

Well it kind of depends on what that material is behind the fets (what you circled are mosfets). Normally they come from the factory with sil pads behind them and lots of thermal grease. But we have some new heat sink compound at work that's a green sheet that has it's own strange thermal paste on it, it's a solid but it goes through a phase change at a certain temp and turns into more of a paste. But anyway, can you tell what that material is behind the fets? My guess is, he cleaned off all the paste to make it easier to work on and just threw some cardboard or something in there so he could test it without shorting anything out. Everything about this story just screams unprofessional and I would seriously be demanding money back if I were you.
Behind the fets it's just a very thin plastic film no traces of thermal paste or nothing.. Looking at my Z150 it has the same film but on the back of the flim it has a white paste between the film and heatsink..

By the picture of the guts I posted can you point out what the drivers are and the outputs these were supossed to be all replaced and I'd like to see if I can tell or not if they have in fact been replaced..

Thanks in advance.

Son of a b****. I had a feeling you were going to say it was him.
I met him in person and actually sent him to this site. He had posts on Craigslist. He actually had a ton of experience fixing amps...even high end equipment from churches and home theater stuff....

He repaired quite a few amps on this board including one I had. It worked fine when he was done....

He is now in the Hospital which may be why it came back so shitty. I know he had his daughter taking care of his paperwork and other stuff. I had one user from here.. jh****....I can't remember the numbers in his screenname. But he had a problem with the dude fixing and upgrading his 800hc Visonik. I guess he sort of just lost contact with him. Since he knew I had met him in person he asked me to find out what was going on. Nobody would answer his cell phone so I sent it a nice text. His daughter "Christina" told me they were not answering calls that he was in the hospital. She said to send any inquiries to his yahoo email address. jh*** said that he got ahold of her and she said she was shipping the amp back to him but it wasn't done.

I know the guy knew his stuff....he actually let me see the amp working after he fixed mine....

Sorry you had to go through all of that shit.

You're talking about Jh8909, he's my friend and the one who turned me onto this site.

he sent his visonik amp out a WHILE ago and just got it back after MONTHS and that guy never fixed a thing.

I felt so bad for him when i went to his house and saw it sitting there just acting like a big ol' paperweight.

The guy still has yet to refund him any of his money too...

Yeah Jh8909 has sent me some PM's I just couldn't remember the numbers once I was in the reply window. I was checking out the thread the whole time.. where amprepairman was supposed to be doing some upgrades to it but supposedly he never fixed the original problem....just added shit? That is just weird why it would take him so long too. I assume that if you are doing upgrades and even have to order parts it wouldn't take months. Maybe 2-3weeks if that.

I am definitely feeling stupid for even sending him to this site. These are the only two bad reviews I have seen and his thread was pretty long, though.

I am curious if he has anybody elses amps sitting at his house still. I know the Visonik was there for ****ing months because he had to "order parts" just like he told this dude.

I went to the dudes apartment or whatever when I dropped my amp off to be fixed and he seemed like a nice guy. He seemed like he had some health problems though, forreal. But that is no excuse to **** peoples amps up or ship them back with screws rolling around inside the case. He was all professional about my amp but I am local and didn't have to deal with any shipping or problems at all. He had my amp like a week.

Wanna talk about getting screwed? OK, I can do that...

The guy's name is Sam Rock and he used to live in Morgan City, La. Who knows where this piece of crap is now but, I really wish I could find him.

It all started when I sent him a couple of Orion amps to repair. He fixed them, sent them back really quickly, no problem. So, then I sent him a Orion Concept 97.1 and two PPI 2150's to repair. I don't have to tell you how rare the 97.1 is and one of the 2150's was near perfec!

I got a few emails from him updating me on the repairs and even talked to him by phone once or twice. Then, all communication stopped. That was over a year ago. Now, he can't be reached by phone, email or by US Mail (letter was refused). His website is gone and the guy that originally recommended him to me said he lost his job and even went to the guy's house. He had moved but, no one seems to know where he is. Sam Rock is out there somewhere and he either has my amps or the money from my amps.

Zed Audio repairs any make/model of amp. If you've never dealt with him, let me just say his customer service is top notch and he is definitely an amp genius.
Also Cali probably won't be too rough for you to ship back and forth to.
Yep, he repaired one of my amps in the past, very quick and friendly service. It wasn't cheap however, $175 to repair a $600 amp.

Depending on the type of insulator used you don't always need to use heatsink compound between the transistors and the heatsink. Not sure what you have there as its hard to tell from the pic but there are several types of insulators that transfer heat effectively enough without heatsink compound at all. Doesnt mean this guy didn't do a hack job though. I've fixed my fair share of amps but I only work on my own stuff because I'd hate to repair something and then have somebody have an issue with it even if it was a year later and I **** sure wouldnt send an amp back to somebody in pieces and take their money for a repair I didnt make. This guy did some major wrong here in the hospital or not.

I rarely post on here & am **** sure not trying to drum up business but I found this thread & had to post in it. I repair amps in my spare time & eventually hope to open a shop doing so. I've done several for people on caco & there are people on there tha know me. There is no way in hell I'd ever require ANY money up front to repair an amp for someone. That's just completely unprofessional & screams of a scam. Also the Zapco amp in question has almost nothing in common with the older Orion HCCAs so the guy is obviously an idiot or a complete crook.
