Pretty dissapointing results with this amp repair :(

Yeah I got his cell # etc... I didn't mean "you" said he fixed hundreds of amps.. I'm talking about his thread you just refered to.. He mentioned he had so many amps from this site he couldn't sit down in his shop etc...

I don't know... This whole deal just left a bad taste in my mouth.. I should have went with someone who has a solid reputation etc I guess.. so lessoned learned..

Aside from my amp not getting fixed it was shocking to see it thrown in a box and shipped torn apart.. I know some of the speaker terminal screws and fuses are missing I wonder if any other screws are too.. I'll have to put it back together myself and see..

Right on. I'm sorry to hear it went so shitty. When I had my amp fixed he was working out of his bedroom basically and he had a ton of projects going on. He took my amp apart in like a minute to see what was wrong with it. It was an alpine mrp-m1000 and one whole side of the amp was out. He did it for like $65.00

I can't believe he would send it back all torn down like that. That is why I thought his daughter may have sent it back just the way he left it. But I guess since you got an email back from him saying he was out of the hospital and shipping it back thats not the case.

I was just trying to give you any info that would help the situation. I would be pissed too.

Once again....sorry to hear it went that way.

I hope you can find someone to get it back up and running like new.

Good luck dude

Yup.. just put it on the table and emptied the bag of screws that was in the box to put it together and right off the bat I see all the nuts to hold the bottom plate on are missing... There's 5 nuts per side that slide into a groove in the heatsink so the screws can be screwed into them to hold the bottom plate on.. nothing looks broke luckilly the fuse holder sticks out a half inch and is only held in place by solder since the end caps were not put back on to secure I'm suprised it didn't get snapped off..

I'm looking at the guts of the amp right now and I see something that seems strange might not be but I'll ask anyway..

(now forgive me here cause I don't know what the proper name for anything inside a amp is)

On each side of the amp there is a rail running down the whole lenght of the amp.. These are screwed down with allen bolts to hold down some square pieces that have legs soldered to the board (not sure what they are called) but anyhow they are clean as a whistle shouldn't these have that white thermal paste on the back side between them and the heatsink? I know originally it did cause I opened it up to look for burnt spots etc and couldn't find any.. I also have this amps little brother Z150 sitting here and it has thermal paste in the same location too...

I don't know anything about repairing amps but was just curious if this could cause problems?

Take pics man. If you don't have a camera, find some pics of another amp online and point out what your talking about (they all have the same parts)

Ok here's some pics behind the parts I circled there is a thin piece of plastic ribbon between them and the heatsink.. On the back of the ribbon there was white paste when I sent it in know it's clean and there is none.. My Z150 has the same ribbon and there is thermal paste between the ribbon and heatsink..

Figure I'll post a couple more pics while i'm at it...

Gut shots..

This is what it looked like when I opened the package.. except the amp was full of styrofoam peanuts and a large piece of foam cut to the size of the box was on top of the amp.

Well it kind of depends on what that material is behind the fets (what you circled are mosfets). Normally they come from the factory with sil pads behind them and lots of thermal grease. But we have some new heat sink compound at work that's a green sheet that has it's own strange thermal paste on it, it's a solid but it goes through a phase change at a certain temp and turns into more of a paste. But anyway, can you tell what that material is behind the fets? My guess is, he cleaned off all the paste to make it easier to work on and just threw some cardboard or something in there so he could test it without shorting anything out. Everything about this story just screams unprofessional and I would seriously be demanding money back if I were you.
